Notice the numerous personal vehicles parked there. $50 says someone parked their car without leaving enough clearance for trains to get by, and so they can't make the loop.
Not the first time I've seen this. At Ruggles, I once watched a logjam of busses form because a precious snowflake MBTA employee parked their car blocking a bus in.
Point taken. I'm much more used to seeing
"auto blocking tracks" as their service "E"xcuse for the Heath Street end of the line, which is what probably threw me off.

It was probably a car accident that somehow ended up on the tracks.
How long does it take to get a tow truck?
Seems like that would be a faster solution than scrambling all the buses necessary for the workaround.
Shame the green line cars don't have cow-catchers on the front- that would probably solve the problem pretty fast too- although they probably wouldn't want to harm one of "their own"

How I'd love to have a dump truck with a cow-catcher! My first target would be that ugly majority of T buses who pull over at bus stops in such a way that they block all traffic behind them so they can pull back out with no effort. Us lowly civilians are subject to a $100 fine if we park in a bus stop, but bus drivers are not subject to any fines when they block the whole damn street off.

This is why I like streetcars
They block the entire street when loading and unloading, which slows down asshole drivers.
Buses are treated as subordinate to other vehicles: forced to the side of the road, most of the time. Then they have trouble pulling back out into traffic. All the weaving back and forth makes passengers dizzier, and throws around standees, too.

They're SUPPOSED to block the whole street, but not a week goes by that I'm not behind an E line train on South Huntington Street when some enterprising soul decides to pass a stopped E train on the right. You know, the side they discharge passengers from. Right next to the elder care building by the Heath Street stop.
I am vaguely amazed that the transit cops aren't out there writing huge tickets (it's the same penalty as passing a school bus with its flashing reds on, no?), and that somebody hasn't been killed when they step off the train and directly into traffic.

Only E trains go to Lechmere. Other trains terminate at North Station or Government Center.

A. It was between North Station and Lechmere, generally only the E line goes all the way to Lechmere. You may see a C train at Lechmere, but not very often.
B. The cars you see parked near the tracks are T employee cars, they'd better know how to park around there.
C. The T is back to 'normal' service according to www.mbta.com
