What's the deal with the Chicken Man and his see-through truck?

Chicken Man near BC

As Spearmintkitten, who snapped the Chickenmanmobile near BC on Friday, puts it: "WTF."

He is apparently different from this Chickenman (the one we're supposed to remember) and this one and this one and, of course, the Chicken Man of Codman Square (who doesn't even look like a chicken).

Whoever, or whatever he is, though, he gets around. In fact, read to the bottom of that link to see how he may be "a daily Mass-going Catholic" who enjoys a dip in the pool at BC.

I've seen this truck down by BC before. I think it at least used to be used as advertising for a furniture company.

So, this "guy" drives around, for what? When asked on pricing, he states he doesn't know--yeah, right.
On the website, no pricing again.
I think it's only a front for what he really is and does.

I saw this thing yesterday in Waltham of all places. I was near Bentley - maybe it is a college thing? One thing that I did find interesting was that it was flashing two numbers that resembled telephone numbers - one was something like 617-chicken, and the other, which made me think that it was one of those New York "street blimps" (which I thought were unlawful here) was a 718-.... (full disclosure, I am pretty sure it was 718 as opposed to 781, but in truth, I was trying to concentrate on driving and merely stole a glance at this thing while stopped at a light). In anycase, I did notice that it had Mass. tags.

I have to admit that I am a bit interested to know who has the time an money to be driving this thing around all day (as you can see, it is built on a fairly sizable box truck chassis).

I have seen this thing twice this week, both sightings by BC. I also noticed a 718- number. I tried googling to see if there was any evidence of the Chicken Man in NYC, but found nothing.

I saw this truck last night at about 7:30 on Mount Auburn St. in east Watertown. the guy was just hanging out in the chair. my first thought was, 'shouldn't he be wearing a seatbelt'?

Is that what Damien Hurst is up to now?

This thing heads down Centre and Langley in Newton all the time, I see it at least a couple times a week while at work. (Still haven't figured out what it is, though. The first time I saw it, it seemed to have a Christmas countdown on it?)

That web address is registered to a "Cattleman's Beef Company LLC" based in Jersey City, NJ.

There's another sighting on this link:
http://boston-thehack.blogspot.com/2010/01/chicken...

The truck's apparently been seen in the New York-New Jersey area as well.

There's a phone number: 201-216-1638

You can run a reverse lookup and see that it belongs to Mohamed Soliman of Uslive.net, at the same Jersey City address given for Cattlemans Beef Company, LLC. Uslive.net doesn't seem to be active, but it's registered to Robert Kreitz of 701 Watson Ave. Madison, WI 53713, at 608-278-0443.

It seems that uslive.net has passed into the possession of a SEO company called Netphoria. No chickens here, a dead-end.

A search for Cattlemans Beef Company, LLC gives an address in Newton MA., with the phone number (617) 558-7273.

http://www.industrynet.com/listing/2903900/cattlem...

Employing the reverse lookup again shows that this number belongs to one 54-year-old Christophe Bock.

http://www.whitepages.com/search/Replay?lower=1&mo...

Chris Bock maintains a linked in profile wherein he claims to be The CHICKEN Man, emphasis not mine.

Potential chickenman trackers should see this site that's been tracking him for a year now:

I called the phone number and asked if it was a restaurant. The guy who answered seemed very suspicious and confused, and told me it was a "food service business". I told him to look at UniversalHub.com if he wanted to understand why I had called him.

I remember seeing 617-CHICKEN on the side of a truck from a poultry company -- one that delivers supplies to restaurants. I don't remember the name of the company, but I've seen it many times over the years (and I mean years, decades). It's not Mayflower Poultry; it's based somewhere in the Newmarket area of Roxbury, along with a lot of other wholesale food businesses. From Ron's comment, I'd bet the poultry company still has that number.

From the conversation, it was clear that I had not reached any kind of regular commercial business, and that the person I was speaking to did in fact own the truck that everyone is talking about here. Beyond that, I really couldn't make much sense out of him.

MGLC 94 Sec 152A. The only Chickenman I know is the old 1960's radio drama about an incompetent superhero. http://the60sofficialsite.com/Chickenman.html shows that I'm not making this up.

I have no idea what station carried it around here, but in Columbus Ohio where I grew up, it was on WCOL. The same folks produced another similar radio show called "The Adventures of the Tooth Fairy".

I loved that show! You can buy episodes of it on CD (a 14-disk box set) or on iTunes. It was originally produced by WCFL in Chicago.

I just saw this guy in Warwick RI, he was lost at a gas station and being a complete dick. We asked what he does and he just said " i sell chickens" and left.

I am sorry you felt "the guy" was being a complete dick. Don't take it personally but as a point of information if you knew the number of questions this guy was asked on a day basis your head would spin right off your body.
Merry Christmas.

to get a bunch of questions about a look-at-me publicity stunt he brought to places he wasn't forced to go by people who didn't invite him. Oh the hardship of the feathered attention whore! My heart bleeds for the man in the chicken suit in the plexiglas trailer with the bright red LED sign screaming CHICKENMAN when it's obvious that all he wants is to be left alone.

Happy New Year, ya filthy animal.

ditto. you beat me to it.

I get the feeling that Chickenman comments anonymously on the Boston Hack website, based on similarity of multiple odd comments; what are the odds that so many people find that thread, and then comment right after seeing him around the northeast? Call me crazy, but the insulted commenter above sounds oddly like those.

And yet, I remain intruiged by this oxymoronical (if that is a word) attention-seeking-recluse.

He was at the WalMart in Framingham on Route 9 on Friday night causing quite the curiosity factor. I also saw him parked outside the McDonalds on Route 30, also in Framingham. I don't even want to know what he was doing there!

Usually in the Chestnut Hill/BC area. He spends a lot of time at the Chestnut Hill Apple Store and sometimes dressed up in a Chicken suit when he rides around in the back of the truck. It used to be open but he has apparently lost a number of blue tooth ear pieces when the sides of the truck were open (the wind would tear it off his ear as it went down the road).

Often times he parks the damn truck in the fire lane at the mall and during the election last year he had Scott Brown signs all over his truck too.

We saw this guy and his truck in Newport, RI on Saturday Dec 18th.
He was in a gas station parking lot and by the time we turned around to go look the truck he pulled out towards the main drag in Newport. This was late about 11pm.

I have no idea what he's selling or not selling or hyping or getting his kicks about, but I'd say it's a somewhat politically correct rendering of an old sideshow geek.

At least, that's where the truck is parked every night. Cedar Street in Wellesley. He also used to have live chickens in his yard, but I haven't heard them crowing in several months. Still no idea what it's all about though.

He was parked by Shaw's on River St. in Waltham last night... I saw the lights as I was leaving. Chicken is on sale this week for $2.99/lb and I bought 2 packages. I still don't know wtf to think about this.

Spotted this oddity in Arlington center last night. Truck was filled with balloons, but
Unclear if they were for sale. 617chicken.com site gave link to buy a Mylar rose balloon.

I met him two years ago, at his notorious lair--next door to McDonald's on California St., Newton. His truck list a website for inquiries. However, since he was there, I inquired directly. But he wasn't giving up any information. Instead, he demanded answers from me! I found him to be disagreeable and pugnacious.

Then I saw him at Home Depot in Watertown a year later. He had parked in the fire lane at the entrance, which I thought was discourteous. So I sat on the bench and waited to see how long he'd take and what he was buying.

He took about 10 minutes longer (don't know since when) and came out with a shop vac....maybe since we'd had a lot of rain lately and there'd been extensive flooding.

WE'VE GOT OUR EYES ON YOU, CHICKEN MAN!

If you're going to make yourself conspicuous, you should behave yourself and obey regulations.
