How Bill O'Reilly got Barry Nolan fired from a cable show almost nobody watched

Terry Ann Knopf reports on the Columbia Journalism Review site on the fallout from Nolan's decision to protest a local TV trade group giving an award to the Fox personality.

Via Dan Kennedy, who notes Knopf's story has an interesting background of its own - it was originally slated for the Boston Globe magazine.

One fact that jumped out at me while reading the story: Comcast was paying Nolan MORE THAN $200K of MY money! I know this was slightly earlier than the media recession and downward pressure on anchor salaries that ensued, but still...this kind of money for a largely unwatched show on local cable?

Must be nice to be so rich not to notice that a giant media conglomerate somehow got access to your bank account and took $200K of it until that fact was published in a blog! I'd notify the police that Comcast stole $200K from you and used it to pay Barry Nolan.

Comcast steals from me all the time too, but I didn't know I was paying Barry Nolan with it.

Barry Nolan's anti-O'Reilly campaign just oozes jealousy. After all, Nolan was probably at the top of his career in the 1980's at Evening Magazine on ch. 4 while across town, Bill O'Reilly was a mere weekend anchor at ch.7, best known for getting zany sports guy Zip Rzeppa to smash an egg on his face, on air, to settle a bet.

Fast forward 30 years and Nolan has dutifully played along with the liberal media script, lashing out at Republicans on his Comcast show that nobody watched and paying out of pocket at Kinkos for flyers to embarass O'Reilly at an awards dinner to honor him.

Both men are about the same age and started in Boston. Could it be that Nolan is a tad jealous that as both men neared age 60, O'Reilly was making more in one week than Nolan was making in a year? Just asking.

HE'LL DO IT LIVE!!!!

That reminds me, you forgot about Billy's tenure at Inside Edition or Extra or whatever hard-hitting TMZ prototype he was the face for.

Who thinks Nolan should get his money and who thinks Comcast had every right to fire him for breach of contract? An important fact here is that Nolan put O'Reilly quotes on the page he handed out and just O'Reilly quotes.

I didn't realize journalism was a blood sport.

What did O'Reilly settle his sexual harassment suit for? Was it $10 million or undisclosed?

O'Reilly is a douchebag on many different levels. Barry has more integrity than most of the tv personalities I've worked with in over 20 years in the industry.
