Only one more weekend of shuttle buses for Red Line riders north of Harvard

The T reports its Red Line track work between Harvard and Alewife will be completed after this coming weekend, which, as the T notes, means this is one project coming in on time and on budget.

Is there a T press release or news article where you found this information? It's great to hear.

(So far, with this non-winter, I've been able to completely avoid the shuttle buses and instead bike where I need to go each weekend)

ANybody else notice that there seems to be a huge number of shuttle buses, and very few passengers, during this whole thing?

Not that I think that the T employees would pad on the overtime unnecessarily, or engage in feather-bedding....

I'm sure that if there weren't enough shuttle buses, we would have heard plenty of complaints, though.

As a resident of Davis, I can say that I'm thankful the MBTA has worked to minimize the amount of time I spend standing on the sidewalk. Thankfully it hasn't been Winter for real, but standing in a windy 30 degrees is not so great compared to sitting on a bench in a (relatively) warm space waiting for my ride.

They have been pretty popular - although a lot of people simply opted to not travel unless they needed to get to the store at Porter.

This is always the case.. sometimes the shuttle buses are more frequent than the subway line they are replacing.

If a train runs every 8 minutes and carries a couple of thousand people, wouldn't a bus replacement service have to run much more frequently than the train it is replacing?

since a single bus doesn't carry even 1/7 the capacity of a 6-car subway train

Getting in there, with their kit, on time, every time, and getting this work done with disrupting any rush hours.

And getting bad mouthed by the likes of Howie Carr for the audacity to expect enough pay to send their kids to the orthodontist.
