No more Bertucci's at Atrium Mall

Almost everything else there has closed, Bertucci's joins the club, forcing fans of pizzas with an olive in the middle to make the long, long journey over to West Roxbury.

In other news, there used to be a Bertucci's in the Atrium Mall.

Isn't there supposed to be a new development with stores opening right down the road from the Mall anyways? Age of the indoor mall is dead.

But, isn't there a Bertucci's in Brookline Village?

Bertucci's is barely a notch above the Olive Garden. In a place like Boston/Cambridge why does anyone eat at national chain restaurants? There are local sub shops who's food absolutely kills places like McDonald's and Burger King, yet the corporations thrive. Another victory for advertisers hypnotizing the over-medicated, over-stuffed masses.

There isn't a Bertucci's in Brookline Village. The downstairs outlet near the D line closed about a year ago.

I'm with the anon, though: Bertucci's should have died a painful death here well before this.

It started on Elm Street in Somerville. Unfortunately they closed the original store a few years ago because they claimed it was too small and could serve only a limited menu. It had a bocce court in the basement seating area.

Now it's a Subway. No idea if the bocce court is still there, but if it is, you can't get to it anymore.

Yep started in Davis Square and still based on MA, most of their locations are in MA and the Northeast. I imagine they're having financial difficulties though since so many are closing and even the one in Kenmore seems to be hurting.

The hidden underground Bertucci's in Brookline Village closed up shop a year or two ago. I forget which other Bertucci's the sign directed people to. Nothing ever took its place.

Whenever I hear Willard Romney claiming he "created" jobs by investing in a big-box chain of stores, like Staples, I think of my yute, when I bought my school supplies at Sutherland's in downtown Lawrence. There were other standalone stores either downtown or other parts of Lawrence or Andover (I lived in South Lawrence then near the Andover line). Then, as a result of gummint spending on interstate highways, big-box stores could be built in gigantic parking lots next to the new highways and away from the city centers. They didn't necessarily "create" jobs, just tranferred them to one locale, perhaps with the same employees let go by the smaller outlets. The travails of the Atrium were caused in part by Legacy Place directly at an exit from route 128, not several miles in on route 9. The Mall at Chestnut Hill has been affected too, and the activity around the former Omni Store, bringing in a Wegman's Dog Photography Studio could divert people from the Atrium. (You mean it's NOT a dog photography studio? Never mind).

I am a bit puzzled as to what's going on with the Atrium, but I haven't really been able to investigate. There certainly seems to be some kind of connection to the construction at the old Omni site - Simon/Atrium must be keeping its powder dry pending completion of that project.

I categorically refuse to believe that they cannot get tenants in an area where the unspoken mantra is: "Recession? Yeah, I heard that there's been one of those somewhere."

If you don't believe that last part, check out the traffic around the Atrium (both its volume and its makeup) - even in the middle of the day. I've never seen such a remarkable concentration of expensive cars in my life - and they're all being driven by people who, so far as I can tell (based on the very few times I have been around there in the last few months during regular business hours), have full-time job descriptions that read something like "dispose of disposable income".

I would visit Wegman's every day if it were staffed by Weimeraners dressed like people, especially if they could get one to play the big piano. Quite frankly, without dressed up dogs, I haven't found them that interesting.
