Orange Line driver saves a little girl's stuffed bunny

CSA at Green St., followed by dispatcher Rhiannon Bernier and
train driver Frank Limone. Audio from MBTA.

Casey reports on a near tragedy averted at Green Street, where daughter Roozle's stuffed Nummy bunny fell onto the tracks as they were getting off the Orange Line today:

The entire train gasped. Nummy was gone. Roozle immediately started screaming, "My friend! Nummy! She fell on the tracks and now a train is going to run her over! She will be squished by the train! On the tracks! I NEED MY FRIEND!!!" I ran ahead to find anyone who could help us.

Don't worry, there's a happy ending, involving a driver who brought the train to a halt halfway up the tracks at the station - at rush hour - got out - and rescued Nummy.

A few months ago, at Forest Hills, I got off the train with my rather slim 4-year old who, in the split second I had not grabbed his hand (he avoided my grasp), managed to step into the gap between train and platform, falling in past his waist. We were in the last car and the driver got out in time to gasp in shock. Fortunately, my son was wearing a coat and I quickly bent over and was able to pull him up and away to safety. All of this transpired in about 5 seconds.

My heart was in my throat just reading this! Glad your kiddo was none the worse for wear.

That was such a kind and thoughtful thing to do. Nummy definitely needs a bath, though.

Maybe the stuffed friends will stay safely in the house from now on. No more adventures for them!

This is a great story, of course, but I mostly get a kick out of how the various people address each other on the radio. I used to love listening to the dispatch on cab rides back when it was done verbally by radio. Lots of sir and ma'am, and very specific speech mannerisms that I thought had died off, but some of it is apparently alive and well at the MBTA.

With no "not my job" BS. And it ends with "Oh, awesome," which it was.

That would have been a great alert; "Orange line delayed 5 minutes to save a stuffed bunny". Kudos to the MBTA employees who took the time to care!

... is that all the replies here are on the side of the little girl and her stuffed bunny. I thought for sure there would be at least one "WTF? The T stopped at rush hour to save a stuffed animal?!? Just another example of Rich Davey's utter incompetency!!!"

The trolls are sleeping. We're having such a nice day in this thread. No need to bang pots under bridges and stir up the miserables.
