This posting is typically strange for the Zak, but this blast from the past is my favorite :

They're painful to read, of course like most people I only read about 5 words then skip the rest. For some reason adamg is the only UH writer who thinks in sentences.

A community center in Boston like this one?
MaleCenter

Not sure that the communities in Boston are going to get together enough for an all-inclusive center. The gay men, lesbians, and people who identify themselves as "queer" don't seem to talk much as it is.

If you are reading this, please take a hint. Start conversations, don't use the internet like a shotgun with URLs as pellets.

It takes more than a link garden to get people interested and engaged.

yet another bizarre post...

This leads to the question is Zak just inclined to post quizzical topics, or is he a Zak Bot?

Yeah Adam, what's with the random information releases?

I'm all for new topics besides French toast and the constant updates on how bad the MBTA is (keep it coming, they deserve it), but these posts are killing me.

They're not formatted correctly, excessively long without a jump, long titles, hyperlinked to galore, and really say very little or add anything.

It's like a pseudo PR release, and when I first saw them I just assumed someone hacked the site, but I guess they are legitimate posts?

I guess it's just a lack of effort? It feels more like a new bulletin post on a ticker from Boston.com then a blog post... I guess the question is where are the post coming from, and why are they so no descriptive while overly complicated? (and boring)

If Zak wants to talk about GLBT issues, why doesn't he start a conversation and go from there, instead of posting a huge listing of links that most people won't click through? His postings are very random...

Most folks don't, but Senor Don Warner Saklad does. Another policy worth reviewing? Along with the whole anonymous-post thing?

But I like the idea of being able to post to Universal Hub....

I guess I never fully read up on the way the site works. I may register finally and start sharing with the community. I sometimes see things that don't get mentioned here...hmm.

I'm with Ron. I like having the ability to post here. I think most of us don't abuse that power. I'm willing to put up with the odd off-putting post in exchange.

First, sorry, I didn't mean to say I would stop all folks from posting here just because of El Zak. If anything, the site would probably benefit from more voices - at least, those that are translated into posts with complete sentences.

The site currently has two public article "types." One is "blog post," which is fairly self explanatory. The other is "story," which is identical to a blog post except it doesn't get indexed on a single page by author. I currently have blog posts set so that anybody can write them, but only I (bwa-ha-ha) can put them on the home page and in the overall sitewide RSS feed. I never did that with stories because, aside from Sr. Zaklado, I am the only person who's ever thought to use "stories" and I like the convenience of not having to remember to check a box to "promote" something I write to the home page (because, of course, every last thing I write is home-page worthy). But maybe it's time I either do that or just get rid of the "story" article type, so that I (or at some glorious point in the future, another editor) would have to approve stuff first. Or create some sort of access-control list so that certain people could auto-post to the home page (you know who you are), but not others.

because I never understood the difference between the two, and "story" worked fine the first time I tried to use it.

I'm not sure what Suldog uses. Who else posts here semi-regularly? Gareth?

Suldog doesn't really know what he uses, because it's been a while since I posted here and, since I feel my way through it each time, I re-invent the wheel every time I do.

Sorry - I wish I was of more help.

I agree that most people don't abuse the power of the post.

TV news stations and newspapers have run into similar problems about how to deal with inappropriate/off topic/abusive posts -whether relating to comments on a story, blog, or their message boards. (Not that they've come up with any brilliant solutions.) Some people even say that editing borders on violating one's Freedom of Speech.

*flails*

*mutters something about how freedom of speech is not applicable to privately run forums and what is WRONG with people (not you, Lyss)*

*flails more*

I'd answer this, but I know it's not going to be read, or if it is, it won't be responded to, so why bother?
