Gintautus Dumcius photographed the people removing the paint from the 54th Massachusetts memorial today, realized that's not a job he'd want on a day like today.

They wait for it to dry before cleaning?
Boston DPW has many guys around there every day clearing trash cans, landscaping etc. Everyone saw the paint get thrown on the statue. Latex paint takes like 30 to 60 minutes to dry and doesn't fully cure for 4 hours. Why didn't the DPW clean it up before it dried? They could have started wiping off what they can and then power wash the rest off in 10 minutes.
The heat of the day probably
The heat of the day probably helped dry the paint faster than normal and the need to document the crime scene probably delayed any cleanup effort.
