Citizen complaint of the day: Hey, Mr. Mayor, Allston still has giant rats

A disgusted citizen - no doubt hoping the city doesn't forget Allston in its newfound zeal to go after the rat warrens of the Fenway - posts a photo of a very dead, very flat rat in the middle of Park Vale Avenue, and adds:

A growing regular scene in the neighborhood - large dead rats on the street.

The city promptly marked the case closed, however, because:

Unable to locate dead animal. please provide a better location.

But, wait, this just in from Mead Street in L.A.:

We've noticed a definite increase in rat sightings over the past week or so. Building's dumpster has been overflowing with furniture/large debris.

Back in the late 70s-early 80s, we used to catch rats, keep them as pets, play with them. They would frequently run along the curb into and out of sewers when it rained. I also remember well, guys who would come around from the city explaining to residents how to deal with rats. We called them the rat men.

Argh. Miscommunication in online correspondence, my favorite.

The complaint was not, "Please remove this one rat." It was, "Rats are a frequent occurrence. Please work on the general problem."

The rat problem won't go away as long as the college kids are around. You'd need to convince them to clean up after themselves.
