Missed opportunity at the Globe

Why didn't they run that book excerpt about Whitey Bulger in Love on Valentine's Day? Who doesn't love a good romantic yarn? OK, one in which the protagonist was busy choking one girlfriend to death in front of the other until an underling pulled him off her, but still.

Is that the same Boston Globe that regularly published Mike Barnicle's canard, "Well at least Jimmy kept the drugs out of Southie"?

You do realize Barnicle hasn't written for the Globe in almost 15 years, right?

Indeed. I realize that Mike Barnicle's Boston Globe heyday coincided nicely with Whitey, er, "Jimmy" Bulger's reign of terror. How nice it must have been for the serial killer to have the Globe's marquee columnist running interference.

Sort of like the State Police must've loved working with the FBI on Bulger stuff.

Man, was this town screwed up.

They already did a story on this book last weekend (Valentine's Day weekend). Now they're on their second story, trying to milk the book coming out as much as possible.

I'm tired of they Whitey story. Haven't all the stories and books been done already?

Last year, not that long after they caught Whitey. I distinctly recall reading it.
