Two shot to death in parking lot of Roxbury drug store

WCVB reports two people were shot near the entrance to the Walgreens at 416 Warren St..

Boston Police report both men, in their 20s, died. One was pronounced dead at the scene, the other died at Boston Medical Center.

The shooting happened a few minutes before students at Boston Latin Academy, across the street, were scheduled for release for the day, and roughly 12 hours after another double shooting in Roxbury that left one dead.

M.A. Ferragamo tweeted:

Drove right by it, crowd of people, some crying, saw cops marking bullet casings, traffic backed up pretty bad.

I'll admit to being jaded about urban crime, but WTF is going on? It's not even summertime. Can we take a minute from being worried and depressed about terrorists in Copley with bombs and get worried and depressed about terrorists with handguns in Roxbury and Dorchester?

I agree. There have been too many shootings/stabbings/etc period. I live in this neighborhood and it truly makes me worried for the summer to come. This has got to stop.

These are not terrorists. They are the children of the neighborhood. They belong to gangs. Some sell drugs. Some have guns. Some have their babies. Some get some help from them when it's the end of the month. All benefit in some way. None want to change it until something happens to end it because they always think it won't happen to me (or my son). Then it's all wailing and crying and marching.

What can anyone outside that closed system do to change it? They live in nice houses, have decent clothes, food, breakfast and lunch at school, and school that's free, cell phones, computers and games and tvs. These kids are not poor by any definition of material want.

But are they poor? I would say yes, but this is a pretty left-leaning group so I won't stress you out by saying what it is I think they're missing. But here's a hint. They can't get it from the government so they can't get it from you.

That means you're off the hook. Have a great day.

As someone who is right now looking at the meanest of Weston streets (that would be Boston Post Road in Weston Center), I can tell you that the drivers of all passing vehicles (avg. sticker price of last 10 cars to go by, roughly 60K) are indeed looking very meanly at the pedestrian nearing this crosswalk.

I bet you're not originally from Boston and only know a limited area of Boston well. I was born here and completely agree with AnonVP's statement. Being from Weston has nothing to do with the opinion their community needs to resolve youth violence internally Vs. waiting for some magical government program. I think many people regardless of political beliefs can agree that government is utterly inefficient, particularly in respects to social issues. So if you plan on waiting for government to resolve this, just be prepared to wait longer than you will probably be around for...

I guess that what's needed is this. Mayor Menino and the BPD should hold a meeting in Weston. And in the meeting ask the Weston residents how the residents intend to solve the problem of crime in Boston. Then the BPD can move onto Concord, Lincoln etc.

I was commenting only on dvdoff's comment, and that I just happened to be passing through the town that he mentioned when I read his comment. I thought it an interesting coincidence.

I think your beef is with dvdoff - and so far as I can glean from his comments, he's lived in Boston for most of all of his life and gets to see quite a bit of it every day given his occupation.

i like your statement, but disagree with one point. the people who terrorize urban neighborhoods are indeed domestic terrorists.

This Walgreens is about a block away from the police station (special ops or something?) on Warren.

I ride my bike past it every day.

What to do? More cops walking the neighborhood? More economic opportunity? More something and less violence, please.

Walgreens just opened a shiny new store at the ex-Borders location on Washington at School Street. And they're building another in Porter Square, across from CVS. I hope this kind of crime doesn't follow them to these new locations.

Do you know how many Walgreens stores there are around Greater Boston? Most of them are in perfectly tranquil areas where shootings are rare. What are you talking about?

Savin Hill is in Dot, why is it so much safer than the surrounding communities? Could it possibly be because people actually cooperate with the police instead of calling them raaay-cyst?

Listen, i know a member of one of the young men that died in this shooting. I am not from boston but i am from the suburbs surrounding the Hub. Boston is not the only area of concern for violence, but to call people ignorant for voicing their opinions, that's actually more ignorant than the person you are insulting. WAKE UP! You sit there and get mad at people that are literally laying the truth right in front of you!! Your child died in a shooting? Do you know what may have provoked it? Do you know if your son/daughter open fired in retaliation? Was this act of violence a retaliation for some form of violence your son/daughter committed? You will never know the answers, but to assume that your child was an angel is completely ASININE! Open your eyes and pay the fuck attention to what your children are getting into! You blame the world for losing your child, did you ever think to look at your child's decisions/friends/beliefs? I highly doubt it, because had you done so, these things may have been prevented. There are always tell tale signs, especially in these cases. Most children involved in gang activity aren't coming home after school, sitting down and doing their homework. Most are out all night doing things that can only be somewhat successful in the evening hours. So Stop blaming society for your children's decisions, look in the mirror and decide if you love your child enough to save his/her life before someone else takes that chance away from you. It's your choice, now what decision will you make? Rest Easy Mip, I didn't know you, but your soul could have been saved.

No Ron is right. Much like the gunman in The Jerk who was targeting the cans, someone is going after all the Walgreens in the area ( not the gangsters who are in the parking lot).

Can you please elaborate? I am not aware of this. People are going after all Walgreens stores? Which ones? If you're going to propose a theory, back it up with data.

I disagree with anonvp on 2 points:

1. "None thinks it will happen to them." That's not my experience. I've talked to many urban youth who think it probably WILL happen to them, and face it with fatalistic despair.

2. Govt programs won't help, so "you're off the hook." Youth workers , jobs programs, education do matter. But what matters even more is our insistence that these are real crimes. We don't need to shut down the city , but how abou putting the surveillance photos on the front page? How about treatin I solved murders as I solved murders? How about reviving the solutions that worked in the 1990s?
