Help a Lite Brite Boy's mother escape

Peter Berdovsky (the one with the hair) is originally from Belarus. His mother's still there. YourArlington.com reports (scroll past the poll) on a benefit show March 8 to help her get out:

... While staying in the United States I have been finding out that most of my family in totalitarian Belarus have been dying one by one in mysterious circumstances. Now, only my mother is left from my close relatives.

"And the authorities have recently locked her up into a mental institution for not complying with them. She was facing an uphill legal battle to try to preserve her land and property and has made a decision to immigrate to Poland. ...

I already made an (involuntary) contribution to this loser
a year ago. I paid for the cops and first responders
who had to deal with his stoopid litebrites.
It's called property taxes.

Now, if the money was going to be used to
send him to Poland, I might be willing
to write a check.

Maybe you should vote for, and actively campaign for better elected officials, who can come up with competent, sound, and non-hysteria inducing action plans in the case of a real emergency.

If anything I THANK this boy, as he showed that when the time comes, we can’t count on the city services, officials, and rapid response teams, as they can’t even communicate with each other, let alone the media.

We can't count on our Homeland Security types to spend any monies to identify and proactively fence off sensitive infrastructure either.

Police/Politician performance art is a given, however.

The devices were placed in public places. Sort of tough to fence all of those off, proactively or otherwise. However, the overreaction of the officials doesn't make this guy any less of a putz.

I guess there's not much money in guerilla marketing.

The costs of this to the City and state were reimbursed in excess of their expense by the Cartoon Network. Well worth it to them for all the publicity it generated (Even though it didn't cause so much as a stir in the other cities where the campaign was waged).

Other cities didn't have reports of a pipe bomb happening at the same time, and didn't have some morons attaching electronic devices to the undersides of bridges. Maybe we need more public officials who are familiar with Teenage Snack Patrol (or whatever the fuck it's called) cartoons.

About three of the four 9/11 planes originating
from our airport here in Boston...

Sorry, I'll take the response we got from Mumbles
et al. over the Ginny Buckingham Mass Port Authority
of September 10, 2001.

The guy's a loser. Here's a novel concept for him
to raise money for his family: try getting an
f'ing paying job and leave the rest of us alone.

It's also not clear how giving Aqualung Jr. some money is going to get his mother out of the clink.

Maybe it's the Belarus government's idea
of "performance art".

Made us all stupid and reactionary, instead of wary and thinking ahead about potential hazards then?

Or maybe it enshrined "reactionary bluster" as an effective equivalent to "systematic approach to maintaining security".

In either case, there still isn't any barbed wire or barriers up under the "sensitive infrastructure" at Sullivan Square. Lots of blustering Bobs nattering about mooninite madness, but no actual attempt to dissuade people from climbing up there and "losing" a back pack.

I suppose that fear of Bob blustering at them in righteous indignation of 9/11 should deter any terrorists from what they should know is sensitive infrastructure, eh?

On January 31 2007, LED displays depicting the Mooninites were installed throughout ten different cities, including Boston, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Portland, Austin, San Francisco, and Philadelphia [...], From Wikipedia.

The Mooninite lights were placed in other cities at the same time, it's just that the other cities saw them for what they were, LEDs!

Here's one in Atlanta: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:MARTA_ATHF.jpg
Here's one in LA:

...which in no way addresses the fact that Boston had a pipe bomb incident concurrent with reports of electronic devices under bridges.

Agreed, you can't fault those guys for crappy circumstances.

For video-taping the emergency response instead of
making the call to say, "Whoa...hold on. It's us!"

Or faulting them for their press conference after the
disaster where they offered the rest of a fuck you
dissertation on hair styles of the 70's rather than
an apology or an explanation?

I'll defend the mooninites. Their behavior afterwards was dumb, though.

i for one knew about 3 seconds into following the news item that day (as it broke) that it was a f-ing cartoon character.

Wasn't it around that time that Boston authorities also detonated a city traffic device under suspicion that it was a bomb? And later they nearly machine-gunned a college girl with lights on her shirt?

As Dave brought up, there was also a crazy guy at New England Medical Center yelling about a pipe bomb that turned out to be something that, while not actually a pipe bomb, looked like one.
