Dude, that's how they spelled Plymouth back in the day.

Not Pilmouth. They should have made the photo a bit larger, methinks.

...Filp may not be totally off base.

Anyway, that is FANTASTIC!!! I hope the sign stays up until the Pilgrims ascend from Purgatory to their eternal rest.

That's the archaic spelling, and the name of the really boring historical park where you can see Pilgrim impersonators doing their thing (they're really good at staying in character). It's been spelled like that as long as I can remember.

Apologies if I'm being completely unclear (me? unclear? hah!).

There is a road called Plimouth Plantation Highway. MassHighway put up a sign that reads Pilmouth Plantation Highway. It's a typo (signo?). Which somebody took a photo o'. Which I then linked to. Oh.

I was just being, er, flip about it last night, but now that I see it on a nice flat screen instead of Ye Olde CRT, yes, it is a sign-o. Reminds me of a lane marking in Concord many moons ago that said "LEFT TURN NOLY."

as Filp confirms. But persistently U-heavy. Plimoth/Pilmoth. No mouth on that Pligrimy town!

Believe me. I was dragged more than once to the bleak and wintry landscape that is Pilmoth Plantation at Thnaksgiving to watch the re-enactors suffer by their tiny fires.

Mass Highway would correct the signs on the Rt. 16W offramp from 93. They currently read "Emergency Stopping Olny".

For awhile (circa 1998?) there was a temporary road sign in the middle of downtown Northampton that read

ALTERNATE ROUTE TO 91 SOUTH
USE 91 SOUTH

What did it mean? Perhaps a Buddhist would know.
