Ballot set: 12 candidates for mayor

Our own Don Warner Saklad provides the list.

Among the qualifiers: Charles Yancey, who is pulling a Paul Ryan by also qualifying to run for re-election as a city councilor, you know, just in case. The other city councilors running for mayor are all in just for mayor.

In the fall preliminary, voters will face an even more dizzying array of 19 candidates for the four at-large seats (two of which are being vacated by people who are running for mayor instead). Among them is ever-candidate Althea Garrison.

On the district side, only Frank Baker (Dorchester) is running without official opposition. Nine people are running to replace Rob Consalvo in District 5 (Hyde Park, Roslindale, Mattapan). Six people are running to replace Mike Ross in District 8 (Beacon Hill, Back Bay, Fenway, Mission Hill) - but not a Timilty, since Greg Timilty didn't get enough qualifying signatures.

In District 4, Yancey faces three opponents, including one from the new far-off Roslindale end of the district.

Perpetual candidate Roy Owens this year decided to run against Tito Jackson in District 7 (Roxbury)

Floor by floor directories. City Hall. Public Library Departments.
The Municipal Election of Candidates for Mayor and City Council could be looked at more closely with respect to how well City Hall works... a floor by floor directory at each entrance and on the web is needed along with a more robust directory of people, their titles, their departments, telephone extensions. A floor by floor directory for Public Library Departments is needed at the Copley Square City Library buildings' entrances. Floor by floor directories make for more accessible city offices.

RFP Request For Proposals for newer up to date technologies and software.
Communications at Boston City Council depend on stenographic records of Public Meetings. Instead of RFP Request For Proposals for newer up to date technologies and software there's RFB Request For Bids for Boston City Council stenographic services for services that use out of date technologies and software. It's important for access to the plain English full stenographic record of the Public Meetings of Boston City Council. More complete than Minutes, the stenographic record is budgeted for with public funds. The stenographic record is a more accessible format for hard of hearing, ESL English as a Second Language, concussion, stroke, cognitive difficulty, elderly folks for whom videos don’t work as well. Stenographic records give Councilors greater opportunity to make known what they said and get more varieties of feedback, comment, questions, suggestions from the people in reply to their remarks.

Maybe there'll be some real competition for Yancey.

If not, however, this new song for him would apply.
