Friends launch search for missing owner of JP video store

Josiah Simmons

Friends say Josiah Simmons, who owns Video Underground on Centre Street in Hyde Square, was supposed to open the store Monday morning but never showed up.

Simmons was last seen around 1 p.m. on Sunday in Hyde Square.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact Boston Police.

Larger photo. Another photo.

Simmons bought the Video Underground in 2011 after having worked there. It's Boston's last neighborhood video store.

Was he a depressed person, in financial trouble, or worse?

I don't know him personally, but from what I've heard, he was neither of those things.

Does anyone know what he was last seen wearing?

I saw him get on the inbound train at Stonybrook Station Sunday afternoon around 2:40pm. He was wearing a black hoodie and skinny black jeans. We're acquaintances and we exchanges smiles and nods before boarding the train. He had on headphones and seemed in good spirit and was rocking out with his headphones on. I hope he's found safe and sound soon

...the guy reportedly got in a fight at a bar sunday night? Hope he's okay. Never met the guy but I've gotta love someone who keeps a video store open.

The bar he was involved in the altercation at was the Brendan Behan. From a reputable source.

Those working at the bar that night gave statements to the police and talked with detectives working on the case. All parties involved in the fight have been IDed. Hopefully something gets sorted out soon, I hope Josiah is okay.
