Police hunt mini-van for rifle display outside the State House

UPDATE: The Globe reports the man with gun was, in fact, a kid with a new pellet gun. No word if his name was Ralphie or if he was warned about shooting his eye out.

State and Boston Police are looking for a blue 2001 Chrysler mini-van, Mass, plates 13618, for an incident around noon outside the State House. Stanley Staco reports:

Occupant displayed RIFLE out the window

State Police advise:

If the vehicle is seen, please dial 9-1-1 or call SP Boston at 617-727-6780. Do not make contact with vehicle or its occupants.

the kid's father was quoted as saying: "Razza-framma-stammit-dad-gum-nabbit" before he stormed off into the basement of his home.

The vehicle and "gun" have been found. It was a toy gun being held by a 12 year old. Poor judgment, not an actual threat.

... people would have taught said 12-year old that waving even an airsoft gun around is bad gun handling practice.

I remember the courses - before my parents dumped their NRA memberships in disgust. I was taught to handle rifles, not PLAY with them. To store them properly and secure them during transport and a whole bunch of other things that applied even to BB guns before I was allowed to handle my own rifle without supervision.

A 12-year old should know better or not be allowed to handle any gun. Anything that shoots ANYTHING is NOT a toy. Period. Parents living in areas where people routinely handle guns for hunting used to teach their kids these things, or kids would learn them in the scouts or from NRA programs. Now we have a bunch of lobbyists for gun manufacturers protecting the right of "collectors" to sell to third world cartels and insurgencies. Sad.

Your experience handling and securing weaponry ... is?

I mean, beyond listening to country/western songs about hunting in your six seat pickup truck ...

And these stupid stereotypes and questions are related to toy guys and other toys that "shoot things" .... how?

I better secure the nerf rifle in the gun safe. Can't be too careful you know.

Airsoft guns look like real guns.

Nerf guns do not.

Airsoft guns can cause serious injury if handled by little monkeys whose parents don't train and supervise them properly.

Nerf guns can injure, but don't have the range or inherent hazards.

But thanks for playing ... shall I send my 10 year old cousin over with his BB gun? His parent's are a drag and make him use it properly ... I'd like him to learn some freeform mayhem in your house.

You didn't say anything about lookalikes before. You said "Anything that shoots ANYTHING is NOT a toy".

I'll pass on the rugrat offer, "But thanks for playing ..." .
