Something you learn driving through JP, Roslindale and West Roxbury at 6 a.m. on a Saturday

It's very difficult to find a place to eat then. Thank goodness for the Westbury in West Roxbury (at 6 a.m., somebody was just lifting the security grate at the Robinwood in JP),

As for why I was driving around the City that Always Sleeps at that ungodly hour, well, had to get the kidlet to school for a field trip. A field trip to Williamstown.

On my way to see if the Blue Star was open. Probably just as well, though - at 6 a.m. I need a chair with a back :-).

And the Brueggers over by the West Rox Health Center on the VFW opens early too. And Anna's Do-nuts on Centre (although their donuts are better than their breakfast stuff, imo). And many of the Dunk's of course.

An hour later, your options in the western neighborhoods multiply significantly.

Westbury is our go to place for breakfast - regardless of the time of day.

My dad would eat all his meals there.

Just a heads up, the Hyde Park/ Roslindale line is before the N Star complex on HPA

Nemos would have been in HP

Nay , nay , Nemo was almost on the corner of HPA & Cantebury street , north of the Edison. It was at the bus stop beside a dry cleaner.

Kudos to Kidlet's school, which apparently saw fit to show a bunch of city kids that there is Massachusetts beyond 495.

Where were they going? The Clark?

Which is hosted annually by Mount Greylock Regional High School--they have enough space for catapult shooting.
There were two tours to the Clark Art Museum though, although I didn't go on either of them.

I wonder if it's easier on a weekday.

I was a little surprised recently to find that there aren't many breakfast places open before 8am on a Saturday in my neighborhood. Usually, that's OK for me, but on that day I needed to be on the road at 7, and didn't want to mess around in my kitchen.

If you aren't going for classy and a croissanwich will do, Burger King generally opens really early.

Nothing wrong with a little BK action in the early AM! Thanks for the tip.
