Election roundup: South Shore pol, 'dark' money from away line up behind Walsh, who becomes victim of push polling

The Walsh campaign has announced an 11;45 a.m. endorsement at the Moakley Courthouse by state Sen. Therese Murray.

CommonWealth reports that the vast majority of outside money pouring into Boston is pouring into Walsh's coffers:

Super PACs and labor unions have upended Boston’s mayoral race, turning what was a relatively even spending contest between Rep. Marty Walsh and City Councilor John Connolly into a tremendously lopsided affair: An unprecedented amount of outside money has saturated Boston’s mayoral race, and more than $4 out of every $5 is lining up behind Walsh.

The Globe reports somebody is making negative push-poll calls to voters about Marty Walsh and that while the calls don't identify who's behind them, following the money suggests it's the Connolly campaign, which, of course, would never stoop so low, at least, not more than once every few years or so.

Both candidates would rather unite against the world with neighboring communities on economic development rather than engaging in internecine bickering, the Boston Business Journal reports.

Foes of the state plan to replace the Casey Overpass in Forest Hills shouldn't count on support from Connolly, the Jamaica Plain Gazette reports.

The Gazette also reports Walsh won't stand in the way of the project, but the Walsh campaign says that's just wrong, that in fact their candidate wants the state to reexamine the whole thing.

Walsh opposes domestic violence and released a plan that's focuses on prevention and more services for victims. He has a similiar multi-disiplinary plan for combatting gang violence.

In District 2, Suzanne Lee announced endorsements by State Senator Sonya Chang-Diaz, State repsJay Livingstone, Byron Rushing, Liz Malia and Gloria Fox, city councilors Mike Ross, Ayanna Pressley, and Tito Jackson and former state reps and mayoral candidates Charlotte Golar Richie and Mel King. Her opponent, Bill Linehan, released a video by Regan Communications:

I wonder where the money for increased pay and benefits for the unions will come from? Surely not the residents of Boston, right?

Look at Linehan trying a last minute appeal to the South Boston yuppies with American Provisions and Southie Grows! Too little too late, especially after his moronic stand against bike lanes on Broadway a few months ago.

So Suzanne Lee got some endorsements from a bunch of pols that don't represent anyone in the district she's running in, except Ayanna whose citywide. Not sure how much that matters.

I'm a yuppie and I think bike lanes on broadway is one of the stupidest ideas ever proposed. Even lee came out against it.

I got a call last night from a 617 number asking who I was going to vote for. I tried finding out who was calling and she said it was an independent poller, but wouldn't identify any organization. I told her that I was leaning towards Connolly and she said, "Thanks for your support, I mean, thank you for voting." Connolly impressed me in the debate on Tuesday, but his shady side bothers me.

A few weeks ago, I received a call from a similar push poll - supposedly independent, but this one was clearly pushing Walsh. They made several positive statements about Walsh, and mostly negative statements about Connolly and asked how knowing that information affected my vote. One statement was that some of Connolly's relatives are republicans. Sorry, that info, if true, is not going to sway me. One thing that is going to sway me is the fact that Walsh is getting so much union cash. Why, oh why, are the unions so desperate to get him elected? Oh the future contract negotiations...

You seem to be the only person who got one of those calls. Any idea why all the downtown interests are so desperate to see Connolly elected. I guess if all the public sector unions would just disappear, all of the City's problems would just magically melt away. I may be missing something, but isn't what Connolly is promising to do with union negotiations the exact same thing that Menino has done, but with different results?

I've gotten Walsh calls. But I think that's because I'm one of the few people to still have a land-line.

Before the preliminary election my street in Roslindale was heavily visited. The only way to shut my two dogs up when the door bell rings is to open the door, and there were a couple of nights that multiple campaign workers came by. One evening I opened my door to someone I assumed was campaigning for one of the candidates. She introduced herself as being from Working America and asked if I had time to answer a couple of questions about my concerns going into the election. Suffering from doorbell fatigue, I said I had no idea, she rattled off a list of possible options, I think I picked the economy and increasing transparency and made up some reasons why while she took some notes.

Then she asked if I had given any thought to who I would be voting for. I said no, told her it would be a game time decision and she proceeded to pull a Working America for Mary Walsh flier out from under the paperwork on her clipboard and said that based on my concerns I should seriously consider him. She said that her organization wasn't working for him but that they supported his campaign and hoped I would as well.

They've since returned twice now and I'm not falling for it again. Now I just say "I'm voting for Connolly" when I open the door to avoid discussing my concerns and the "Please support Walsh" sneak attack.

Fall for what? They identified who they were, by law they can't "work" for Walsh and said nothing negative about Connolly.

I swear I've become "poll king" with all of the surveys I've been answering, which makes me a sucker for actually having a land line and answering it. I've gotten push polls for Connolly ("after hearing that, do you want to change your choice") and for other candidates. The other day I got what I thought was a push poll, so I lied. It really did seem like a push poll, and it was computerized. At the end they noted the organization, Public Policy Polling, which is a real outfit. I felt a bit bad for lying, thereby skewing the results, but whatever.

I think we hoped this would stay clean, but with this lineup, it wasn't going to happen.
