Mike Ball watched a noontime procession down Tremont of marching Marines, colonial re-enactors and plenty of men in kilts with bagpipes, commemorating Iwo Jima Day.

The Marine Corps League is responsible for conducting this observance. Therefore, on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 Iwo Jima Day will be observed in the following manner:
1100 Parade forms at Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market
1130 Parade steps off and marches to State House
1200 Ceremony outside State House- Prayer/Firing/Taps
1215 Parade disbands
1230 Ceremony in Hall of Flags/Memorial Hall
1330 Collation
Rene Rancourt from the Bruins will sing the National Anthem.
As part of the ceremony awards will be presented to:
-Carolyn Dykema State Representative
- Ed Kelly Boston Fire Fighter and Mass Fallen Heroes
- Dan Magoon Boston Fire Fighter and Mass Fallen Heroes
- Helon Wylllie Survivor Outreach Services (Gold Star and military families).
