Remember: Patty Campatelli is up for-relection this year

The Globe gets its hands on a report that kind of makes the first-term Suffolk County register of probate look like the boss from hell:

Patricia Campatelli often worked only 15 hours a week at her $122,500-a-year job as Suffolk County register of probate, and she spent much of that time taking “numerous smoking breaks, scratching lottery tickets, looking at East Boston real estate on the Internet, and filling out puzzles,” according to employees quoted in a confidential report obtained by the Globe.

And let's not forget the incident that led to the report, in which she allegedly punched an underling.

15 hours a week? She must be the hardest worker in the department......
Guess MIA Martha is too busy looking for her next job to do her current one.....

Going by the statistical implication of your use of "typical" in this instance, I'd also assume all Mass Republicans live in NH like Scott Brown. Actually, is that really incorrect?

Thanks Adam. this is good info for those of us who live here and vote.

Why have a costly election for an office which this woman has obviously demonstrated is nonessential? GET RID OF THE POSITION ALREADY!

than in a Shakesperian play. This behavior was well documented before the election.

What's with smoke breaks being used to meet with constituents? Her attitude of no one can fire me but the voters says it all.

More hacks....

She very well could be a no good, do-nothing political hack.

But she could also be in charge of an office full of no good, do-nothing hacks as well.

Or both.....

Hacks hate being told what's to do, and since I don't think these hacks are guaranteed their jobs, I'm not sure I'd believe anything any of those people say.

Cigarettes an scratchies and East Boston real estate and being vindictive and assaulting people...this woman couldn't be more of a walking cliche if she tried. They all end up in these government jobs. if she was a middle aged white man she would have found a way to be "out on disability" from that government job.

And another anti-white/liberal white guilt comment on UHub.

Some poor exploited and degraded straight white male's fee-fees were hurt! The world has to stop in its tracks!

Life is hard enough when you have so many unearned privileges to enjoy - let alone when you are in constant and unfair jeopardy of Not Being Special Anymore!

Ya my blue collar urban upbringing was full of unearned privileges, tool!

How many black people did your dad work with? How many in that union?

Gee, I wish my dad had had such plushy goodies as union job security, pay, benefits, disability, etc.

Yeah because if you replaced white with black I'm sure you would be so flippant about the feels of black people.

We need a second waaaaaaambulance here.

Yes, the unearned privilege of coming here not knowing a word of english, living in the same neighborhood as the "oppressed and misunderstood," going to the same school, having both parents working crappy minimum wage 16 hour/day jobs, yet somehow ending up at a first tier college instead of jail or six feet under. All those first generation immigrant kids sure have a lots of unearned priviliges, don't they?

Nobody stopped them from doing all those things because they were white. Had they been black, even if born in the US, you better believe those opportunities would not be there. Get real.

You think black people are the underclass because they didn't ever work hard?

Examine your privilege, please.

Looking at East Boston real estate on line, everyone wants to buy cheap and sell high in East Boston, so they have enough money to buy real estate in Saugus or if they make more money on their East Boston real estate deal they can buy in Lynnfield and mix in with all the knucklehead Cheesy people who try to impress others with their Cadillacs and Lexus's and their excess material north shore lifestyle..

This isn't a left-right issue, no matter how hard the Republican trolls try to make it one. Hell, they were trying to politicize a snowstorm a few weeks back.

but the lack of any coherent, forceful opposition to the Democratic politics are definitely not good for regional government in the greater Boston. Ideally there'd be an alternative party which was interested in good government vs. patronage, pension maximizing, etc... to give us an alternative to hacks like this woman, Arroyo Sr., etc... I can't see that being the GOP though.

One party rule doesn't usually lead to good government.

One party ruled city, and it looks more and more like Chernobyl.

With rare exception, the Republican party doesn't offer candidates or proposals that the electorate here (or pretty much any other major US city) finds acceptable. And even when they do get votes on the promises of lower taxes or more jobs, the first thing they do in office is move to restrict abortion. You might get away with that in rural areas with plenty of low-information, low-education voters, but it won't fly here (or pretty much any other major US city).

The FIRST thing Republicans do is restrict abortion? Is that what Romney did in MA? Weld?

For a town with about thirty Republicans, they sure seem to be busy. Yet people like Swirly accuse THEM of whining. The hypocrisy is hilarious.

depending on whether all of those opponents are in the same primary as her. You can theoretically win a 5-way race with just a little over 20% of the vote.

If I remember correctly this woman had an insane and abusive Facebook page when she was running for office and no one cared and she won anyway.

masshole from the Grifter caucus of the Democratic Party.

Corbett said he could not sort out the facts behind Campatelli’s alleged Dec. 18 assault on longtime employee Timothy Perry, noting that both had been drinking heavily at two bars prior to the incident and that Perry had been in one detail inconsistent in recounting his story to others at the time.

However, Corbett said, Campatelli showed “poor judgment” by drinking so much at a Christmas party and “a fundamental inability to understand that, as the Suffolk County Register of Probate, she should be a dignified figure at a public party involving her staff rather than a drinking companion.”

That's right, she was not appointed. She was not a part of the "old boys" network. She took out papers, got on the ballot, won the primary (I will admit it, I voted for her) and presto, she is the Register of Probate.

Yes, the job should be appointed, just like how John O'Brien was appointed Probation Commissioner. More importantly, people (myself included, apparently) should take elections more seriously, learn about the candidates, and vote for the best person.

In my defense, I was curious about 2 East Boston people running for the job, assumed her opponent was a career politico, and voted for the "other guy." Perhaps she is being hatcheted by the status quo right now, but I do feel bad for voting the way I did.

Again, she won, so there have to be others who voted for her. Over 15,000 others.
