Just wait until T runs until 2am!!!

That happened at 9pm, do you think the T should close at 8? Trains running until 2 has nothing to do with this.

The server or bartender who waited on you needs to get home, too.

Late trains help health care workers, service industry workers, people who work at startups and other sectors with late hours, this puritanical view of work is 9-5 only is way out of date (if ever true, Boston used to have 24 hour trains). Should we shut the roads and all parking garages down after midnight too?

Pieces of trash!!! Hopefully someone recognizes them.

The whole T is having a meltdown from the trains to the passengers. I pray that the courageous females who came to the aid of the passenger who was being beaten are OK. Now round up the usual suspects at the local yuppie watering holes who no doubt bragged about their bully beatdown

Do those suspects look like yuppies to you?

No. They look like folks who had no proper adult supervision as children. Prob have a record of smallish crimes and don't care. Prob been arrested for assault before I betcha. Slap on wrist for them once they get caught from judge dougan

What do Yuppies look like?

I feel pretty confident about is the jeans the dudes are wearing. Yups don't tend to wear those baggy-ass, faded, boot-cut pants that were the shit 10-15 years ago. Southie yuppies aren't wearing the super-skinny "girlfriend" jeans favored by Allston hipsters, either, but they're likelier to wear something darker and cut a little trimmer than what our assailants are sporting.

Yuppies generally don't beat people up on trains either.

They don't look like middle-aged guys beating up women on the T.

They can open as many restaurants and Starbucks and yuppie condos as they can fit in that area, but it will always be a shithole. It's like putting lipstick on a pig.

Pour enough development into a shithole, and before too long, everyone's home is worth $800K. Then all the people who derided it as a shithole go, "Damn, why didn't I buy back then?"

The period of low rent life in cities was collateral damage from flight to white picket fence land.

It was a fluke

Now, the crappier 'burbs are the ghetto's of the future and dolled up cities are the places to be.

Many the people who suffered through the urban hell phase as homeowners were probably psyched to see the aulde dump skyrocket in value so they could cash out and move to imaginary tax free utopias like New Hampshire.

The old South End may have been rough but it always had beautiful housing stock and a location that was convenient to downtown (and, after they completed the SWC, a fairly seamless connection to the Back Bay etc). South Boston has, architecturally, very mixed housing stock, a lot of public housing and industrial areas and a cultural history that still makes a lot of us cringe. Plus it just always seems claustrophobic to me--peninsular--and generally lacking in charm. I mean...if people want to pay $800k to live there, God bless'em and good for the folks who are making money, but it would never, ever be my cup of tea.

South End, while I agree is beautiful, has the highest percentage of low-income and subsidized housing (41%). Southie seems much more run down, because the poor junkies there are white, and thus, extra entitled to, say, beat up 2 women on a T who ask you to stop arguing.

A small preview of next Sunday's after-parade shenanigans. Many people on this board have asked a thousand times, and I'll ask again. Why don't I see uniformed transit cops ever riding the T? Is it a clause in their contract?

Parading around JP on their motorcycles yesterday--can't say I didn't have that thought.

And I'll respond a thousand times to those thousand questions, do you ride the MBTA often? Are you aware of your surroundings when you do? I see uniformed officers regularly. Occasionally I'll see teams of six (one officer for each car of a train) who will board trains for a couple stops, get on the train behind it, repeat. I board at Jackson Sq frequently and will see two officers (sometimes hiding around the corner from the fare gates to sting evaders) fairly often.

Yes, I am a frequent T rider. As someone who lives near Ashmont and who works at the Seaport, I ride that spur of the Red Line at least twice a day. Added to this, as I do not own a car, I frequently use my monthly pass to get around town on my personal time after hours and on the weekend. I am also very observant - I often use the T Police app to report trouble. And while I don't ride the Orange Line as often as the Red Line (and when I do its usually from Back Bay to Oak Grove), I will repeat - I never see uniformed police officers riding the T. I would bet a good number of people can say the same. Seeing as this incident took place on the Red Line, I can only imagine that it is such a rare occurrence that it does not warrant the same level of protection the Orange Line gets, but I doubt it is a rare occurrence.

And the orange line between Downtown and Forest Hills looks like it was designed to handle small arms fire and light antitank weapons as if it wants to intimidate passengers..

The downtown core stops have fairly robust police presence and they are alert and cool. I had one spot me doing my subway stop photo project and he was great at providing the basic rules... Don't use flash on the drivers and don't stand in the tracks in cases like the green line.

Presence can be variable on the outskirt stations. The Cambridge side of the red line is fairly pacified. They probably run patrols based on incidence stats or something and an old school hooligan brawl at Broadway was presumed to be a thing of ouah colorful past.

The trains will run to 3am and no they are probably what's left of people that actually grew up in Southie

It looks like 'old Boston' to me.

The fact that the people involved in perpetrating the unprovoked assault on people who tried to help someone in trouble were adults (in terms of chronological age, that is.) indicates that some people just simply never grow up.

It's sad, especially since the perpetrators are also involving and exploiting a teenager in their criminal exploits.

i once saw 2 trashy girls that look kind of like the girls show in the pics here. it was on the redline and there was a woman with a young child sitting across from them and one trashy girl said to the kid "you better not stare at me. don't look at me again, do you understand?" made me so mad since there was nothing I could do without them and the large man they were with attacking me verbally and/or physically .

If they would post some straight pics of the suspects (not video) then it would probably go thru social media faster...and they would find these folks.

People don't want to sit through a shook up video just to check out the people at the end.

But for some strange reason haven't charged anybody yet. It seems pretty obvious that a crime, or at least several misdemeanors, were committed by this band of thugs, so why the delay in charging them and releasing their mugshots? I'm starting to get that queasy feeling again...hopefully we'll hear something new today or tomorrow, and get these knuckleheads identified.
