Why are Waltham's pot dealers so violent?
In 2011, there was the triple murder linked to Tamerlan Tsarnaev, the victims' bodies sprinkled with marijuana.
A high-school student was shot to death last week, police say, in an attempted drug rip-off that was aimed at recovering money the victim felt was stolen in an earlier pot deal by his cousin.
And now, Waltham Police alert us, another suspected local pot dealer, Luis Orlando Santiago, is wanted on charges he repeatedly stabbed a customer he was trying to rob on Saturday:
Victim stated once at SANTIAGO'S house he was lead into SANTIAGO'S bedroom. While in the bedroom SANTIAGO told him to turn around and look at something behind him. Once victim turned around, SANTIAGO put a knife to his throat and told him to empty his pockets and he wanted his money.
Victim complied with SANTIAGO and dumped his money, $250 and his cellular phone on the floor. When SANTIAGO bent over to pick up the money and cellular phone, victim made a break for it.
Victim stated as he ran out of the bedroom he was stabbed by SANTIAGO several times in the back. Victim stated he made it to the stairs and then out of the house. Once outside he jumped into a vehicle and drove off. Victim was stabbed 8 times.

Unreasonable prohibition begets illegal enterprise
One might have seen the same said about "why are (community)'s rum runners so violent".
Notice that we have hold ups in liquor stores, but not much of this sort of behavior.
This is why I'm
a Silk Road user.
:-)
*looks at dvdoff* *jealous*
it ain't a thing anymore
Silk Road ain't a working thing anymore. Feds busted it up last year, and the "new" version (if you were dumb enough to think the "new" version was safe) just took all the cash and ran.
So no, you don't use the Silk Road.
Ahem...
I have used SR2, but now that they've gone no escrow, I've switched to Agora, with an occasional Pandora purchase.

Need help getting on?

Right, these guys murdering
Right, these guys murdering one another is really society's fault.
Learn the history of alcohol prohibition
And you will have your answer there.
Exactly Swirly- Make it legal
Pot is a drug, not good, not bad, but a drug, just like alcohol. Alcohol is far worse for your body, and for society, yet it's legal. Legalize pot, tax it, sell it in approved stores, and let people grow it if they want, just like you can brew beer and make your own wine.. Better for everyone. A new source of tax revenue and business growth. As Swirly alluded, prohibition of alcohol led to the growth of violent organized crime, just like the violent organized crime that sells pot today.
Actually...
it's an herb, not a drug.
Cambridge/Newton/Belmont
Waltham's dealers were the victims of murderers from Cambridge (Tsarnev) and Newton/Belmont in the latest shooting.
just a guess
Is it so violent because it's gang related?
Because Waltham is a Distribution Hub for Narcotics
From BostonMag's big story last month:
Can you link to the article
Can you link to the article please? I couldn't seem to find it.
Link is in the original post
It's the one about the triple murder.
Common knowledge
Everyone knows that dealers don't get high on their own supply.
But maybe in Waltham's case they should make some exceptions.
Luis
looks like a perfectly nice guy.
Sarcasm off.
Boston Magazine article
Hadn't read it, I didn't realize there is still investigative reporting going on there. An eye opener. Of course, I was young in the 70's where it seemed most people were interested in conspiracy theories; not in vogue anymore.
