This could very well be a troll, but:

Someone claims to have uploaded scanner audio from the fire, and provides a partial transcript showing that the firefighters in the basement repeatedly asked for their line to be charged (turned on) and it never was - 7 minutes after they enter, they mayday. 7 minutes after the mayday, they're still asking for water, it seems.

Photos from the scene (showing whether lines were charged or not, engines were staffed, etc.)?

For better or worse, I heard it all live - it was really awful, because you could tell they were in bad shape and then they just stopped answering. The firefighter with the radio (Lt. Walsh, I'm betting) kept calling for water and help and the dispatcher, almost as frantic, kept telling him help was on the way. And it sounded like help was on the way, but the other crews just couldn't get there because of the flames or something.

They didn't need crews. They needed the line they'd hauled with them in charged. Which from the radio chatter, it never was. That's why they then needed rescuing - they were in a basement inferno with no water.

The interviews talk about the heroic efforts of the RIT. Nobody's talking about how the team in the basement ended up down there repeatedly asking for water.

The community may want to contribute to a fund for a charitable donation or scholarship in Michael Kennedy's name to honor his contribution to the city of Boston and his service to our country as a Marine. I have read that he was a volunteer for Big Brothers and Big Sisters and donated his time to many other local charitable organizations.

Don't want to be disrespectful, but I am under the impression that Massachusetts provides for the families of fallen firefighters. If I'm wrong, I would like to know that, because we should fix it, but I believe that the families are already provided for financially -- as they should be -- with our tax dollars.

The firefighters union will help the families out. Maybe they had insurance, and maybe, yes, there's a state fund.

But if people want to contribute something to help the families, why not? These two men did something almost none of us would do and they saved lives. If people want to say thanks by helping make the lives of their survivors a little easier, God love them.

...I believe it's OK to give people the opportunity to help the family out a little more.

I have no idea how much the other organizations help the families. Lieutenant Walsh had 3 kids under 10. That family is going to need a lot of help.
