The MBTA invites interested parties to bid on the sale of MBTA property, located at 68 Emanuel Street, Revere, Massachusetts. The property for sale consists of a single family residence and the associated approximately 3,500 square feet of land.
Of course, you might be asking yourself why the MBTA owns a single-family home to begin with.
Turns out, Edward Findlay reports, the T got the house when its owner, Andres Townes of Revere, pleaded guilty in 2012 to forging commuter-rail passes.

Can any train buffs comment on why the MBTA is selling what appears to be a right of way along Route 1A?
Once, There Was A Railroad ...
... and if you look at the area on Google Maps, you'll see the remnants of a freight line coming down from under Railroad Street in Revere.
The line used to continue into East Boston, but that right of way is now used by the Coughlin Bypass Road. Much of the area for sale now appears to be used as a driveway for a self-storage facility. Since it's rather unlikely this property would ever be useful again for rail service, it makes sense for the Ⓣ to add a little cash to the till by trying to sell it.
