Has the MBTA got a deal on a house for you
By adamg on Mon, 04/14/2014 - 4:18pm
Check out the listing for this charmer:
The MBTA invites interested parties to bid on the sale of MBTA property, located at 68 Emanuel Street, Revere, Massachusetts. The property for sale consists of a single family residence and the associated approximately 3,500 square feet of land.
Of course, you might be asking yourself why the MBTA owns a single-family home to begin with.
Turns out, Edward Findlay reports, the T got the house when its owner, Andres Townes of Revere, pleaded guilty in 2012 to forging commuter-rail passes.

Whatever the highest bid is
I have an escalator clause for $5,000.
Be careful what you wish for
In this case, that just means they throw in the escalator at Government Center.
I win
I got a wooden escalator clause - for a cord of strange and worn hardwood sticks which look suspiciously like treads.
Is this home a
crapbox or the equivalent of a Red Line train in January?
Insulting
That comment is insulting to crapboxes.
Well...
You'll be unable to shut off the radiators in July and August; and the AC is guaranteed to keep the house a nice 15* F from Thanksgiving to Saint Patrick's Day. The stove may also occasionally catch fire while you are making dinner.
The escalator is out of service.
Use the stairs.
Open season
The real estate closing will be delayed by at least 15-20 minutes due to pen problems...
...but there will be no one actually present at the closing to inform you of that, you will just hear an automated message apologizing for the delay...
When you do finally close on the house, it will have a snake in it, misplaced by the previous owner....
I've had about enough
of these mf-ing snake references in every mf-ing thread.
Is There A Room In The House That Looks Like An Orange Line Car?
More likely
there may be rolls of old MBTA tokens hidden in the walls.
Oh, and don't forget
The house comes with an extensive lien on it because they planned to do renovations and an addition, but then they spent all the money building a long driveway on the other side of town.
Not interested. Too many
Not interested. Too many switching problems.

Yeah, until he gets out of jail and murders the new occupants with sharpened Charlie Cards.
I think I remember the
I think I remember the reading the UHub article when he first got caught. Pretty funny the conclusion is they got his house.
ROW for sale?
Can any train buffs comment on why the MBTA is selling what appears to be a right of way along Route 1A?
Once, There Was A Railroad ...
... and if you look at the area on Google Maps, you'll see the remnants of a freight line coming down from under Railroad Street in Revere.
The line used to continue into East Boston, but that right of way is now used by the Coughlin Bypass Road. Much of the area for sale now appears to be used as a driveway for a self-storage facility. Since it's rather unlikely this property would ever be useful again for rail service, it makes sense for the Ⓣ to add a little cash to the till by trying to sell it.
Uses for an easement in the middle of a parking lot
Some goofy ideas
No idea who would buy it except for the parking lot owner. Wonder if the easement lets you build stuff.
Maybe they could give the
Maybe they could give the house to someone who is having their glx-abutting property seized by ED.
