Is West Roxbury ready for a second Middle Eastern restaurant?

The Boston Licensing Board next week hears a request by the owner of Cristelle's, 5268 Washington St., to sell the restaurant and its beer and wine license to Fadi Metri for a Middle Eastern restaurant called Fairouz.

Along with the sale, Metri will seek permission to expand the alcohol license to include liqueurs.

Al Wadi, which offers Lebanese fare, opened on VFW Parkway in 2010. Cristelle's sold pizza and subs, along with a few Greek specialties.

West Roxbury has one of the area's largest communities of Arab Christians.

The board's hearings begin at 10 a.m. on Wednesday in its eighth-floor hearing room in City Hall.

..other than corporate grift?

At any rate these people are serious.

Fairouz is cherished. Here's one of her hits

She's 78 now. She is the Arabic Billie Holiday in comparison with Oum Khalthoum who would be their Bessie Smith.

My command of Arabic boils down to "Merhaba" which means something like 'hello'.

That and the usual Islamic salutations.

But planetary music forms are familiar to me.

My way of understanding other cultures begins with music and food.

According to wiki stuff it is the Arabic word for turquoise.

A pretty reasonable method (i.e., one my wife and I also follow). ;~}

How many people could there be who live in Braintree and have a connection to West Roxbury? But I wasn't absolutely sure, so didn't include that in the original post.
