Woman attacked on Esplanade; suspect description different from earlier, unsolved attacks

State Police report a woman walking by the lagoon around 2:50 a.m. was pushed to the ground by a man, who was then chased off by several passersby.

She was taken to Mass. General for treatment of minor injuries.

The man is described as white or Hispanic, bald, about 5'7" or 5'8" tall.

The suspect in a still unsolved series of attacks along the Esplanade and in South Boston's Moakley Park between 2006 and 2009 was described as black and 5'8" to 5'10." A suspect in a 2012 attack was also black, as was the suspect in a 2011 attack.

Anyone with information about this incident or the assailant can call State Police at 617-727-6780.

What are that many people doing at the river at time of the night/morning? Whenever I'm passing near there at the weekend late at night it looks deserted.

Medical and research staff at hospitals work late hours and often jog/run/bike to and from work.

There's a tension with something like this. On the one hand, assault, let alone sexual assault, is wrong. Any time, any way. However, most of us ( and I am speaking as a man) would be apprehensive walking through a park at that time of day for fear of crime.

So no, the victim is not to blame. She is a victim. Most would caution against being on the Esplanade at 2:30 in the morning, but in the end she is the victim of a crime, and the views of many of us that 2:30 is a bad time to be there is not meant to lessen the severity of the crime nor to provide a defense to the scumbag who assaulted her.

Stating that walking alone at 2:50 AM in a major metro area isn't a good idea is victim blaming? Sound like advice to me, but whatever gets you fired up...

I'm a 30 year old male and I wouldn't walk on the esplanade alone at 2:50 AM. Lest someone, ya know, rob me.

It's common sense advice. Not victim blaming.

They may be annoying, but they tend to run in groups and are usually willing to intervene.

We can rule out the 25 men on the Boston Red Sox. They've proven they can't commit any offense.
