Overweight guy criticizes woman's weight

Go figure: John Dennis is not only still a racist, he doesn't see the hypocrisy of somebody who's had his weight problems criticizing somebody else's weight.

Via Bruce Allen, who notes the misogyny of that Minihane guy who's also on the show.

farts. And even they have been forced by management to tone down their mocking-poor-black-kids act since they started getting their ratings asses handed to them by The Sports Hub.

The younger demographic that advertisers covet seem to be a bit more uncomfortable with foaming bigotry and Fox News level distortions of current events with their morning coffee. Most of the rest of EEI's lineup keeps the politics out of it, except occasionally for Mikey Adams, who gets the garbage time slots and everyone treats as seriously as their hippie great-uncle who fried his brain on acid in 1969, anyway.

It is typical for the far left to label someone a "racist" when they do not agree with their agenda. Just look at how many Rebublicans got that label when they did not go along with President Obama on most issuses. Someone stick a fork in the "race card", it is dead.

up

Comparing a Metco student to a gorilla is racist. Stick a fork in your Obamaphobia, it's lame.

just noting widely-acknowledged facts. D&C's racist comments are well documented and have gotten them suspended. Mouthing some lame rightie talking point ("playing the race card", like calling out ugly prejudice is some kind of game) isn't going to alter that history.

It boggles my mind that these idiots are still on the air. I know so many people who stopped listening to that station years ago due to their show (myself included).

This seems like a rather catty post, no?

Regardless, are fat people now a protected class?

up
Voting closed 0

Catty would have been complaining about his weight a few years ago just for the hell of it. You know, like he did with Michelle Obama. But I didn't. I just find a public figure who has or had a certain condition complaining about somebody else for allegedly having the same condition more than a touch obnoxious.

up

That she is fat and he is as well is ironic, sure. Obnoxious. definitely. That it seems far too ok for men to comment on women's bodies never mind the fate hate out there, it's inappropriate BS. Our airwaves never used to be littered with this crap.

up
Voting closed 0

him being fat doesnt change the fact that the woman is fat. i dont see anything wrong with calling a spade a spade, even if you're a spade

up

But unless you're able to comprehend the concepts of shaming and men who never really left the fourth grade, and who expect women to simply be objects on which they can drool, there's not much point in discussing it, I suppose.

when they set guidelines for BMI and call some patients obese? The government and schools too? Are Biggest Loser shows wrong? Are some men wrong for preferring a big booty? So too in some foreign cultures? FYI, sexual preferences are not monolithic either.

up
Voting closed 0

Do some men not understand what it's like to be called out as fat? Were some men never bulled in school? Are some men unable to differentiate between what a doctor tells her patient and what is shouted at that person in a public forum? Do some men not realize this is the US we're talking about, not some hypothetical foreign country with different standards of "beauty?"

and the media in the US has a very large (excessive) influence on the everyday lives of the population. That media doesn't need to call anyone fat when they glamorize thinness. Encouraging healthy weight isn't the problem, its when people choose to lose weight in unhealthy, lazy ways, and that isn't the fault of media (other than those hawking such products). I'll give you an actual foreign country where people will encourage heath and fitness and tell fat people they are fat. Hint: they just won the World cup in soccer.

You know how it is they stay so klein?

Well, for starters, the Germans have a lot of bike lanes and bike parking, and charge a lot for car parking

They have programs to get young children on their own bikes and biking to school, and build safe facilities for cycling and walking

They invest heavily in public transit and wide sidewalks

They require drivers to know and follow the laws, and strictly enforce them.

A car driver who hits a cyclist or pedestrian is automatically at fault for the accident.

A truck driver who runs over a cyclist or pedestrian would lose his or her license, job, and might do jail time if they left the scene (rather than being comforted and coddled by police who don't do anything).

Drivers can be required to prove their fitness to drive at any time and have their license removed for medical reasons.

Speed limits are strict and strictly enforced with large fines, insurance surcharges, and license termination. Want to get somewhere quickly in an urban area? Take the train or use your bike. Your favored attitude about how special driving is is tolerated only on the Autobahns, which are built solely for cars and speed.

All of this means that Germany is promoting fitness much the way Michelle Obama is - through good food AND through making it safe to conduct the activities of daily life from the youngest ages without sitting in a car.

Michelle Obama isn't fat. I wish I looked that good-- I'm just a few years younger, and I didn't have two kids.

Being fat doesn't put anyone in a protected class, though scientists now realize that the causes of obesity and how an individual plateaus at a certain body weight is more complicated than we all once assumed. Fatness, however, is not only not a valid reason to attack anyone, but when a fat white guy attacks a fit black woman and specifically focuses on the size of her butt, then I suspect he's actually a frustrated racist who wishes he could attack her based on her skin color but as he wants to cling to his crappy job, he goes for other body characteristics.

But who knows. I'm sure someone is going to say I'm reading to much into this. The question is, who will be first.

Pointing out obvious facts is hate? I mean, I know Republicans have a tenuous relationship with reality between their global warming denying, creationism supporting, and Laffer Curve straightening, but I think you're delving into brave new territory here.

up
Voting closed 0

Please don't generalize the right-wingers, as you call us. I am mid-40's with two Masters degrees, I am not a racist homophobic bigot who hates everyone. We want lower taxes, responsibility and accountability in our government and for the most part, to be left the hell alone. We are sick of the hyphenation of our population. Most of us don't listen to their drivel but they do what they can to retain their small listening audience.

Those of us on the right have a simple premise - "Equal Protection Under the Law"

up
Voting closed 0

I hesitate to ask, but what does sick of the hyphenation of our population mean? Like Irish-American or Italian-American or something else?

up
Voting closed 0

Names like Janette Sadik-Kahn and Sonia Chang-Diaz for two. It was a short lived fad for couples to hyphenate their last names when marrying, though politics of the parents were often integrated into their kids upbringing.

Who is John Dennis?

up
Voting closed 0

I should assumed it was something to do with a right winger having an issue with someone else's freedom to make a personal choice. The fact that people would have a problem with what a woman choses to name herself is only too perfect. I do feel bad for the previous poster who was so frustrated by a 'short term fad' that he had to voice his displeasure with it though.

up
Voting closed 0

Mark responded to the person who posted, making an assumption what "John" meant by hypenation. I read it as something else- that we are a nation losing it's unity, that rather than being Americans we are Irish-Americans or African-Americans or Transgendered-Americans or Left Handed-Americans, that the pluribus is overtaking the unum.

Of course, I don't want to put words in John's mouth, but still, if he is trying to stake out his brand of conservativism as different from D&C, no one should try to define it other than himself.

up

Some people have a hyphenated last name because it was their father's name, who had it because it was his father's name, and could take you back to England and show you ancestors' graves from the 1500s with the same hyphenated name. You really gonna judge somebody over their surname?

There are multiple ways to interpret what is meant by "equal protection", and unless you're prepared to describe what specific kind of equality you'd like to see optimized, I'm just going to interpret your statement as a rather unimaginative euphemism for "F-you, got mine."

How are you confused ? Splain it to me , Ace . You don't like my lawn ? Do you know how to get one ? You earn it , it's a fruit of your labor. You invest in yourself. Maybe forgo a few vacations , clear the timber , doze the soil , spread some loam, seed and nurture, instead of laying out in the sun at the Cape. Thats how I got my lawn. Be productive and prosper. Got my education equally just as the other lads in the room. Paid my taxes , whichever ones the threw at me, equally , like most people. I could go on, but you get my drift. Want Rights, there are Responsibilities that go along. As in nature , there is no such thing as a free lunch. But I don't go along with the notion that anyone has the right to pick my pockets. The old saying , give a man a fish , he eats . Give him a fishing rod , he eats everyday. But you don't buy him a flucking fish franchise restaurant. Carry on , have to mow the lawn .

No, it doesn't mean that anyone is entitled to a lawn or anything else.

Equal protection means that under the law all are considered equal. You have access to the courts (though not necessarily to the best lawyers) and you have certain rights that apply to all. There are legal rights, voting rights, items in the Bill of Rights, that we all are allowed to have.

Some think it means equality of outcome, which it doesn't. It also doesn't mean that we all start out equal. It just means that we all have certain rights that cannot be taken away.

It's ok to generalize about one group of people (right-wingers), but no others? D&C are complete assholes, but they don't represent anyone but themselves. What you said is no worse than what they say.

up

You conflating "like a lot of" with "all," while I'm sure inadvertent, is still hilarious in the context of this discussion. BRAVO!

up
Voting closed 0

So it's ok if I say "a lot of black people are lazy", or "a lot of asians are bad drivers" or "a lot of Muslims are terrorists"...as long as I don't say "all"? Generalizing any large group of people (be it ethnic class, political party, religion) is wrong and foolish.

if the Republican Party weren't the comfy home of racism, religious intolerance, homophobia, and xenophobia in this country. You can stop complaining about being tarred with the bigot brush when the GOP stops exploiting those kinds of fear and prejudice as a central part of its strategy for winning elections.

The fact that these two radio hosts are deeply conservative and laugh heartily while making racist slurs isn't a coincidence. When more conservatives speak out openly every time one of their leaders exhibits this kind of intolerance, then you can complain. In the meantime: prejudice is the conservative brand. If you promote it and you exploit it, or you sit by silently when your fellow conservatives do, then you own it. If you're sorry about that, imagine how the people that conservatives routinely vilify for political ends feel. If you want to distance yourself from such ugliness, stop putting those assholes up for public office.

So it's now racism to point out more dismal poll results for this president while acknowledging the hypocrisy of an overweight woman telling people what to eat, even taking away food choices for children? Wow. I don't recall John Dennis ever lecturing people on their diet. If he did, that would be hypocrisy. As for unflattering comparisons of Jackie Kennedy's looks with other First Ladies, Eleanor Roosevelt, Hillary Clinton and a few other FL's could probably relate. Racism? Hardly. FWIW, I find daily sports radio trite and only listen during major playoffs or controversies.

That is kind of incendiary in itself. It's a picture of two wives of Presidents. Being a wife doesn't make anyone an expert on anything. I have never in my life seen the amount of vitriol spewed about a First Lady (other than Hillary) as I have about Michelle Obama. Every First Lady takes up a crusade. With Nancy Reagan, it was "Just Say No". Laura Bush touted greater literacy. The First Lady is right to take on the obesity crisis. And, her body is amazing. Why does every woman have to have the body of a 12 year old boy? There's something really wrong with that standard.

What I find breathtaking about the Right's 5 year long panic attack about the Obamas is it lays bare their hypocrisy. They have said for years family is the key to building a better black community. Barack and Michelle fit the bill of a great black family. The Right glosses over their accomplishments like they just showed up on the White House lawn one day and moved in. Individually, POTUS and FLOTUS are very accomplished. They are examples for not just black children, but all children.

Maybe Derek Bell was right. The longtime Harvard professor had a theory about how far this country would be willing to let black people go, how much it would allow us to achieve, I think his theory has been given new life by this sickening display.
