Election roundup: That tears it

Joan Vennochi says Charlie Baker should've gotten mad, not sad, when that fisherman told him he wouldn't let his kids go to college.

Tears: Good or bad?

Was the tears sincere? Tears were initally shed several years ago.

Enough with stupid debate questions.

Falchuk talks about health-care costs, housing.

Uncle Joe was back in town.

Coakleys support for illegals and student on visas being able to vote in local elections?

Also no mention of Baker's New Jersey connection.

isn't as attention grabbing as the invasion of scary brown people meme offered by the GOP. Ebola = brown people, illegals = brown people, welfare cheats = brown people. Works like a charm.

It has more to due with protecting the LEGAL right to vote. Why should a student from overseas studying here be able to vote in any election.

But way to be raciest and assume everyone in the country illegally is brown.

keep watching Fox and listening to Rush. If young women won't vote republican then they shouldn't be allowed to vote. If blacks and latinos don't vote republican than throw up as many roadblocks as possible to suppress their votes. Within 15 years you're party will go the way of the dinosaur. Desperation and the next two years will further hammer the nails into the GOP coffin.

Let's just face it: Political debates are the new reality TV.

Well we all know who Adam is voting for!

It's almost as though those are completely unrelated to the debates in question, and don't deserve the electrons it would take to render them. And if I didn't know better, I would almost suspect Adam of trying to curate the discussion to not talk about every idiotic right-wing talking point that's been vomited up over the last six months.

Charlie Baker also supports in-state tuition for illegal aliens. I find it odd that he doesn't also support these students' ability to legally drive to school.

student on visas

If there is only one in the Boston area, that's hardly going to throw an election!

Meanwhile, this is very disturbing:

Coakleys support

Coakleys? Are there more than one of her?

Or is this some sort of "sexy politician" Halloween costume, like all the "Coakleys" are dressed as Major Awards ...

way to be raciest

Anon should be glad that restricting voting to people who can pass literacy tests is illegal.

Why is is the first comment on these posts is always some anon with the day's WRKO talking point?

up

Because they're paid to. Most of us are just screwing around at work, and don't have Google alerts set up to tell us when we have to go type semi-literate screeds about unrelated political points. Thus we're usually late to the party. And Adam, bless his heart, lets most of them through, either to give the rest of us someone to point and laugh at, or because he doesn't want to be accused of having too heavy a (leftist! socialist!) hand moderating.

There have been several proposals nationwide to allow non-citizens to vote, but they generally have included only Green Card holders. No one has proposed allowing people here illegally to vote. She even mentioned allowing those with documentation to vote.

The question was about local elections. If those cities decide that is what they want to do for a local election (but not other elections), that's up to them... as long as it's within the rules.

I couldn't understand why he was crying unless it was because the father was an idiot.

up
Voting closed 0

It was tears of joy thinking of another person he and his big wigs can exploit with low wages and no sick leave (if Charlie Brown gets his wish) for the poor working class. Or maybe he just remembered after all this time trying to deny it he remembered he is a Republican.

That the father tragically destroyed the kids future to maintain a multi-generational family business not knowing that over regulation a few years later would destroy it anyway.

It's like having stopped your kids from investing in 'risky' start-up Google before it went big time because you wanted them to put the money into your 'safe' established employer Enron.

How could he not know that his branch of the fishing industry has been dying for decades? The regulations have just postponed the inevitable end. Removing them would precipitate an immediate collapse of the fish population, and then Mr. Family Business would have to take up something else.

Incredibly disappointed by Baker's crocodile tears. I think it's pretty damn clear that he could give a rat's ass about New Bedford fishermen and their families. I gave him the benefit of the doubt when he teared up even though I though it seemed over the top, but now the truth has been revealed: it's all an act. He claimed he met the fisherman a week ago, but in reality he 'met' the fisherman years ago and he gave the same fake heartfelt speech back then. If this guy and his family made such an impact on Baker then he would have stayed in contact with him or at least remembered his name! Granted he's a politician and I'm sure they're all guilty of similar antics. However, Baker is taking it too far. When he loses to Coakley, I'm sure he'll be running off to NH to try again up north. This election can't come soon enough!

Harden the fuck up, Baker. You lost my vote, you crying sissy. Grow a beard and go split some firewood with an ax or wrestle a bear or something and maybe I'll respect you again, you weepy little bitch.

He's not going to need your vote. Even libs are done with Martha.

Why does crying make a guy a sissy? Why would you even use a word that's just short of a slur to describe him? People of all genders have emotions and should cry if something upsets them.

Were his tears real? I don't know. All I know is that I strongly object to men who cry being called a name because of it.

Crying is a natural function, and much like urination, should be done in private. Leaders should be able to hold their emotions/bladders in check and not lose control, especially in public. Crying during a debate is as much an inappropriate outburst as throwing over your podium because you can't properly express anger.
I did slip a bit when I said "sissy". I meant "nancy".

For the record: I'm crying at my desk right now. I'm laughing so hard that tears are running down my face and my coworkers are looking at me as if they're wondering if I took my meds today. (I did.)

If you just want to know who will be on your ballot, and perhaps you forgot where you vote since you only vote when the Governor is on the ballot, just go here. It's quicker and easier.

Latest poll is a statistical dead heat, Coakley catching up to Baker (behind 3 points with a poll +/- 4). I guess those fake tears from Baker were about how he is in danger of losing again.
