And there wasn't even that much snow on the ground

Police say a dispute over a parking space in Revere early this morning ended with the arrival of a SWAT unit after one participant tried to underline his point by firing a gun into the air several times and then refusing to come out of his house when police arrived.

Revere Police say that after firing his gun four times around 1:15 a.m., Jeffrey Moreno, 28, retreated into his home at 229 Fenno St.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office provided this account:

Revere Police were called to a Fenno Street address shortly after 1:00 a.m. after two guests of a holiday party in the neighborhood entered their vehicle and were confronted by Moreno, who alit from his Cadillac Escalade and ordered the victims to move from a spot on the street near his house. During the confrontation, Moreno yelled at the victims in English and Spanish before retrieving a firearm from his vehicle and firing three shots into the air. He then returned to the victims’ vehicle to yell at them once more before backing into his driveway and entering his home.

Revere Police officers responding to the subsequent call for shots fired were unable to make contact with anyone inside Moreno’s residence and contacted the North Metro SWAT Team for assistance. After several attempts to contact Moreno by telephone and through their cruiser’s PA system, Moreno exited his home and was taken into custody.

Chelsea District Court Judge Matthew Machera agreed with a prosecutor's request to set bail at $50,000 on four counts of assault by means of a dangerous weapon, as well as charges of illegal possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling and threats, the DA's office reports.

Innocent, etc.

Is "North Metro SWAT" another illegal private corporation acting as a police force like the other one, whose name escapes me right now? It's been in the globe once or twice, they refuse to release any records saying they're a private company, but they get money from a slew of town and city police forces, own equipment only police agencies can, etc.

I believe you're thinking of the North Eastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council. There are several of its ilk.

"The allegations are that someone ... fired a couple of shots in the air - never pointed the gun at the people, never threatened the people," said defense attorney John Haggerty.

It was in celebration!

But then, that's why that lawyer makes the big bucks.

Maybe I find it so reprehensible because I still remember when a co-worker got killed in New Orleans on New Year's when a bullet fired into the air to celebrate came back down to earth and struck her in the head.

a celebration? That event, where the bullet boomeranged back down to earth, struck an innocent New Years celebrator in the head, and killed her is yet another example of why guns are so dangerous. What's there for people not to get?
