It's Obama's fault that a full-of-himself grad student didn't realize that he couldn't also fill himself with booze and then try and duke it out with cops? Why do you think Obama is so omnipotent? Is he your god?

Why hasn't anyone blamed Ted Kennedy yet? Or Obama's dogs? We need answers.

Sorry. Could not resist.

(Joking, people, just joking)

Yeah, the White House tells them what to do.

Is one of the commenters on the Crimson site really trying to blame the cops for this?!

So, multiple officers were dispatched based on "sleeping man at 2:30 AM" reports? Candidly, this doesn't seem like enough of a "man bites dog" scenario to demand such a commitment of enforcement manpower, does it? Didn't HUPD's response indeed inflame what amounted to a zero or near zero risk situation into a "mini-melee" altogether un-necessarily? As usual, Mariel's crime reporting leaves the reader with more questions than answers, I'm afraid.

If you don't want to go to jail, don't punch, kick, or spit on the cops.

It's the cops fault for sending "multiple officers." Good one.

and now another "Douchenozzle"* albeit just student size.

Hopefully this two are not representative of what Harvard Law is turning out into the world these days.

*Thanks to the original poster of this word. It has now become part of my active vocabulary.

Also from the Crimson is this news story.

I have often wondered (along with many other I bet) how termites ventilate their living spaces.

While lack of curiosity is a pretty major character flaw, it pales by comparison with the tendency to ridicule the curiosity of others.

Harvard police have nothing else to do. Really. Talk about a cushy job in "law enforcement." I'm surprised they didn't break out the mobile tactical emergency truck because they've never had to use it...ever....for anything.

I'm sure he was drinking heavily and assaulting the campus police because he was upset about the grand jury decisions not to indict in Ferguson and Staten Island. It would be wrong to punish him. We should also insist that he be excused from his final exams.

Let sleeping dogs lie. I'm reminded of the homeless guy who stabbed two park rangers in the Common. The rangers were enforcing the ridiculous no smoking policy, and ended up getting stabbed for it. Was there an environmental emergency caused by the cigarette needing immediate attention? Was the guy hurting anyone by crashing on the floor? Once learning that he was a student and sleeping on his side, leave him alone.

rooms to sleep in?

Aside from that fact, what probably happened is that a concerned party contacted the police and when they try wake up sleeping beauty from his slumber, he, being "highly" drunk, decided to assault the officer in question. That is a big no no.

In regards to your comment about the park rangers, they are in charge of enforcing policy (i.e. it is their job), however ridiculous the said policy may seem to you or I*. Thus, the unfortunate incident on Boston Common.

*For the books, I also agree that a non smoking ban on Boston Common is silly.

I wonder if the person calling it in expected EMS and not Police?

It sounds like the guy was pretty deep in the land of nod so I don't know if he was exhibiting any behavior associated with being intoxicated. He might of looked passed out, though.

At Harvard, if you call 911 you get Cambridge police. HUPD has its own number. Plus, if a student is deemed unresponsive HUPD will investigate and make attempts to revive them.
