Man arraigned again on charges he killed Dawnn Jaffier for no damn reason

A guy who was already sitting in jail without bail on charges he opened fire on Blue Hill Avenue last summer, killing Dawnn Jaffier and injuring another woman a few blocks away, will continue to sit in jail awaiting trial following his arraignment on a murder indictment by a Suffolk County grand jury.

Keith Williams, 19, was arraigned today in Suffolk Superior Court on a charge of first-degree murder, which will mean life without parole if he's convicted. Clerk Magistrate Gary Wilson agreed with a request from the Suffolk County District Attorney's office to keep Williams behind bars without bail pending the outcome of his trial. According to the DA's office:

[Assistant District Attorney Mark] Lee told the court that shortly after 8:00 a.m. on Aug. 23, Williams stood in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and McClellan Street - where crowds had gathered to watch the J’ouvert Parade portion of the Caribbean Festival - and fired numerous shots from a .357 caliber revolver down Blue Hill Avenue in the direction of Charlotte Street.

Jaffier, who was standing with friends on Blue Hill Avenue, was struck in the head and killed; a second victim was struck in the leg as she sat a few blocks away near the intersection of Blue Hill Avenue and American Legion Highway.

Williams fled on foot with two other men. He was observed hiding the revolver in the yard of a home on Drummond Street and continued walking a short distance on Drummond Street before Boston Police stopped him and his companions based on witness descriptions, prosecutors said.

Innocent, etc.

Adam, just curious .... where did this statement come from? Do we know for sure whether he was aiming for someone else that morning?

Dawnn Jaffier and the other woman he hit (several blocks further down the street), however, were not his targets. The headline on the press release from the DA's office reads:

Gunman Indicted in Murder of Innocent Bystander

... he had plowed a car into the parade?

Would the charges be the same given the outcome would be similar?

You mean if he deliberately and intentionally drove into a crowd aiming for one person but hitting another? Then probably yes, because that's exactly what the police say this person did, except with a gun instead of a car.

You mean if he accidentally hit someone with a car while intending to travel lawfully on a street along with thousands of other cars? Then probably no, because that's not anything like what the police say this person did.

Google "murder." The overriding criteria isn't causing death ("the outcome"). It's malice (the intent).

Please show respect for the victim swrrly. An innocent woman was shot in cold blood. Don't hijack this thread for your own agenda. Adam, can you please chime in?

How do you pronounce her last name? (I've only seen it in print and online, not spoken.) It looks French, so is it ZHAH-fee-ay ?

I read somewhere that her father was from England, so it's likely her family is British West Indian (probably Trini if she was marching in the parade) rather than Haitian. So it's likely just "jah-fer".

This is just conjecture though.
