Man makes off with cigarettes in armed robbery of JP convenience store

Around 2:40 p.m., a white man with a small black gun held up the JP Variety Store, 162 South St. He took about a dozen packs of cigarettes, which he stuffed in a white plastic bag, and headed to the Southwest Corridor.

He was 5'11" or 6' and appeared to be in his early to mid 30s. He had brown hair and eyes, a bit of facial hair and wore a black, white and gray winter jacket.

On Saturday, JP Auto Services on Centre Street was held up at gunpoint.

This will be the last anon "Gee, no comments on this crime post, so you people all suck because reasons!" comment I'll post.

Maybe if every single visitor to Universal Hub commented on things and then there was one post that nobody did, you'd have a point. But they don't - relatively mundane crime posts like this one (and yes, I realize it was far from mundane for the poor store clerk or owner involved) often generate no or few comments; heck, even the most recent Storrowed-truck post I did got no comments. It probably doesn't mean everybody but you is a staggeringly uncaring dolt; it probably means people just don't have anything more to say after seeing all the other crime posts I keep putting up. By all means post something about the situation discussed in the post (hey, do you live near South Street? Are you concerned? Have you ever shopped in this store? Had you ever even heard of it?), but enough of the comment counting already.

(and especially with the crazy cold), but there were very large numbers of people "hanging out" at the section of the SW corridor park down by Forest Hills, and down by the liquor store by Fazenda, and the Dogwood, etc, last week.

I don't fully buy into the Broken Windows theory, but drinking and drugging in public can't really hurt in creating a more comfortable environment for the criminal element.
