Allston's only Afghan restaurant looks to move to other side of the turnpike
By adamg on Fri, 01/09/2015 - 7:27am
Ariana Restaurant, currently at 129 Brighton Ave., is looking to decamp for a larger space in the new Charlesview complex at 384 Western Ave.
At a Boston Licensing Board hearing on Wednesday, owner Baheja Rostami and her attorney said the extra space in the new location would mean "a more comfortable location" than the present storefront.
Ariana needs permission from the licensing board to change the address on its beer and wine license. The board deferred action on the request at a meeting yesterday.

Good for Lower Allston that someone wants to move there...
But sucks for me. I love having them just a couple blocks away. Western Ave isn't impossible to get to, but it's not nearly as convenient.
I see it the other way around
Since I'm coming from just a bit further away, I either had to take the 57 or drive and suffer the hell that is trying to park around Harvard & Brighton. I like Ariana and it's much more convenient than Helmund, so having it over on Western Ave will make it a LOT easier to get to and I'll be a more frequent visitor.
I totally understand my
I totally understand my complaint is entirely selfish...
That said, in general, I think the Western Ave location is only "easier to get to" for people driving. While the B and 57 are no picnic, it's certainly more accessible from more directions by those (plus the 66) than the frustrating 70 and 70A. Even if the 70 was "fixed," it mostly helps people coming from Cambridge and Watertown, rather than those of us just a mile or so away.
That said, this is mostly a zero-sum situation, I'm just on the losing end and am selfishly sad.
Understood
I was just presenting the flip-side of the coin. I appreciate the trouble you would now have to go through to get there. You're right that Lower Allston isn't the most accessible area of the city for non-drivers. The 66 will get you to Western and N Harvard too. You can always look forwards to biking there in the spring!
Love Ariana
I love Ariana and support the owner to do whatever she thinks is best for her business. I encourage the licensing board to act quickly rather than make it difficult for people to improve their businesses, thereby helping to make our great city even better.
