These black kids and their parents should stop complaining about being over-policed and show the kind of respect we want all citizens to show law enforcement. You know, community policing.

63% of Boston police-civilian encounters from 2007 through 2010 targeted Black people which are less than 25% of city's population. The Boston Police do not contest these statistics.

I live on the side of town that lots of Boston police officers and their families live. Every single one I know (I know three) I know to be a friendly and upstanding person. And they have nice families.

On this side of town we hold rallies thanking Boston police for their professionalism. Teenagers here do not get stopped and questioned. When someone drops a dime on the kids drinking behind the XXXXXX (redacted), the police come and send them home with a stern warning, saying: Next time, we'll call you father Officer Friendly.

They don't get put in the system. It's a double standard. I'm actually ok with giving kids a break on being put in criminal justice system if the consequences mean the kid learns a lesson under adult supervision, and not the lesson that they're protected.

We have a double standard. On one side of town, kids shouldn't complain about being detained by police if they're not guilty, on the other side of town kids aren't stopped willy-nilly and when they are, they're protected.

I just cant figure out what is so different about the two sides of town that causes the disparity in approach.

The other side, which you used as a counter example, involves underage drinking, drug use and dealing, some larceny and b&e. Absent is the numbing level of extreme violence, gun crime, shootings, homicides. That's the difference.

Agreed, but the kind of crime is different as well. Bowdoin-Geneva appears to be in the midst of of a gang war, sadly perpetrated by young, black males.

The police must act accordingly. It's probably different being a young, black male in Charlestown than it is in Dorchester.

If law abiding citizens are looked upon as possible criminals, no one benefits. The police are viewed as an enemy, which affects their ability to hold down crime, which results in more police activity in the area, which works in a vicious cycle.

You have to keep in mind though that the neighborhood will blame you, the police, if nothing is done, and these males continued to hold the community hostage. Oh also, you can't stop to talk to the people who could POSSIBLY be involved.

Okay, go. Blow our minds with the solution so we can FINALLY fix this.
