In addition to our parking wars, media outlets overseas are also loving the people-jumping-out-of-windows story (which probably nobody would have even thought to pick up if the mayor hadn't complained about it). Take, for example, this story by La Libertad, in Madrid:
The mayor asked them to stop:

New Hamp-shah!
My favorite line from that news conference is Mahh-ty (whose accent was in fine fo-ahm, IMO) saying, "This isn't Loon Mountain. This is the City of Boston."
Is Loon Mountain somehow known for its annual window-jumping championships?
Perhaps Mahh-ty
was attempting to make a poor joke.
Loon Mountain is loving the
Loon Mountain is loving the free advertising. I'm signed up for the Loon emails and the very next day I got an email from them titled "This IS Loon Mountain."

Defenestration of Boston
Prague had its historically famous "defenestration"; I guess Boston does now, too.
Apparently the BBC reported it as well
Someone in our U.K. office asked me about this today during a phone meeting. They rarely get large amounts of snow, so the idea of having a pile large enough to dive into is probably fascinating to them.
Snow in London
When snow hits London, and we're talking a few inches, it cripples their railway systems, and generally shuts down Heathrow.
I hope they never attempt to host the Summer Olympics, because it's obvious that their infrastructure can't handle it.
Better to have the
Better to have the international press talking about jumping into snow than the parking space saving lunatics. Their threats, vandalism and general assholery are making the city look really bad and will probably affect our tourism industry.
With the anticipated road
With the anticipated road shutdowns and traffic limitations and construction, will there be space savers during the Olympics? Oh, think of the fun we will have then.
Actually...
...the spacesaver violence has been covered abroad. Adam had a post up yesterday of a story from German media. I read a similar report at the Corriere della Sera website, which also covered the window-jumping phenomenon today, using some of the same photos as the Spanish story.
What would Menino say at a time like this?
"Knuckleheads!"
In Sweden too...
Some Swedish friends of mine posted a Swedish version of the story, "Naked Bostonians Hurl Themselves into Snow Drifts."

But in Sweden ...
... they have the sense to sit in the sauna first before they jump naked into the snow or sea!
after a few slugs of aquavit...

My son actually called me with this!
He saw it in the paper in Madrid (February vacation school trip).
"Has everyone really gone nuts, ma?"
