this morning on my inbound commuter train. The most common observation among everyone was that the black and blue colors were horribly ugly. And our conductor looked at the white and gold combination and immediately proclaimed it as bronze and silver.

This "what color is this dress" debate shows how far down the internet has brought our collective intelligence. These are conversations that Kardashians have all day, every day.

How much time do you think anybody actually spent on the dress or the llamas or even the Slurpee Waves of Nantucket? That lots of people are having some fun with these things doesn't mean Civilization as We Know it is doomed, just that, maybe, people who have spent all day dealing with serious/mundane things found something that makes them laugh or go "ooh" or whatever for a few minutes.
The fact that the Kardashians get mentioned at all, now that's a serious issue we need to address!

I wouldn't say that. This thing going viral has produced some interesting discussions about how the brain interprets colour and about light and colour balance.

Now that there are Coyote Marines, I figure humanity has about six, maybe seven years left at the top of the food chain.

Yup...neuroscience and the physics of light really bringing down the collective intelligence of society! People who probably haven't learned anything new about science in recent history stopped to read an article explaining this phenomenon. If the Kardashian's are talking about "chromatic bias of the daylight axis", then maybe none of us can keep up with them.

I just came off the Longfellow bridge and saw several sets of different types of animal tracks in the snow on the river. Hope everyone gets where they wanted to go!

the Road Runner have declined so much. If Chuck Jones were still alive, he NEVER would have allowed the Road Runner to cross a frozen harbor (see Rules # 5 and # 6 below):
Despite Wikipedia's insistence that these rules were pure fiction, Mel Blanc, the voice of nearly all the Warner Brother's cartoon characters, acknowledged the existence of the rules in his autobiography.

I live in Quincy, and coyotes are fairly common here. I haven't seen one, but I've seen a few articles in the newspaper about coyote sightings. I think they hang around the beaches and marshy areas at night.
