Oh, Goody

Goody Glover's, the Irish bar in the North End that was shut to make way for a Peet's, says it's re-opening somewhere in Downtown Crossing.

A more residential area gets a coffee shop, and a business district gets another bar.

Potential noise complaints aside, I don't know why North End residents would want to trade an independent, local pub for a coffee shop, of which they are in no short supply -- and a chain coffee shop at that. As a visitor to the North End I certainly know which I'd prefer, but that's really not my say, I guess.

Regardless, I'll never understand Boston's push to cluster all the drinking establishments together, leaving massive dry patches in all the neighborhoods. Neighborhood pubs work quite well in just about every other city, and around the world, but if I want a drink and meet up with neighbors or friends I've got to make an event out of it.

If this is going in at Federal and Franklin, it will be going into what has been a dead zone for bars and restaurants until very recently. There is hardly a concentration in this edge of the financial district at least - almost everything on High Street is new, and the place on Franklin is also new. Then there is the Elephant and Castle, which has been there a while, but was on its own for a long time.

I agree that neighborhood pubs are awesome, though. However, those that live in the North End have been raising issues here and elsewhere about there being too many drinking establishments

Those that live in the North End who have been raising these issues come from the NEWRA crowd, enough said.

There are approximately 100 pouring licenses in the North End so the departure of Goody Glover's did not leave that particular neighborhood with a dry patch. Also, I don't think that most residents would agree that noise is an insignificant issue.

There is a new place under construction at the corner of Franklin and Federal. I wonder if that is it?

No, that's going to be a Dunkin' Donuts.

The tweet is actually from yesterday so I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

Are you kidding me, Peets coffee in the North end,.. I'm surprised New England coffee one of the original coffee companies in the area does not have a cafe in the North End..
