App lets people rent out their parking spaces

The Huntington News takes a look at Spot, a homegrown app for connecting drivers who need a space with people who have driveways or other parking spaces to rent out - which makes it different from the banned Haystack, which tried to alert people to open spaces on the street.

They drive around the city putting annoying suction cup things on your windshield to advertise. Which you either notice and then have to throw away, or which you don't notice until you turn on your windshield wipers or put down your window.

Or as Mitch Hedberg says, it's kind of like they're saying "here, you throw this away."

so these are the folks who littered my neighborhood with green lollipop suction cup things? I'm ok with the business plan but I dislike litter based advertising.

Collect the suction cups and imbed them in Globe Direct paper mache? Work the red bags in somehow?

But two problems:

a) it encourages more people to drive into the city
b) for those with a spot, now they can park on the street with a resident sticker and rent out their spots - which is going to make a difficult job of finding street parking even more difficult.

I see three outcomes:

a) limiting the number of resident stickers someone can have (I know people with 3)
b) charging for those stickers
c) like Airbnb, the city/state are going to want their pound of flesh and will tax this

b) people already do this, which is why we should be charging for those stickers *right now*.

Of course, in order to make this not financially worthwhile, the sticker would have to cost about $100/month in most neighborhoods.
