Bird is the word in Downtown Crossing tonight

Turkey in downtown Boston
Downtown Boston turkey

Jamie Walsh reports this turkey was just ambling about Temple Place around 7:50 p.m.

Craig Caplan reports she spent some time hanging out next to jm Curley - fortunately for her, wild turkey was not on the menu tonight.

In my (admittedly limited) experience with those creatures, I've found them to be pretty nasty, aggressive, and territorial. I'm surprised those folks could get that close without provoking a turkey meltdown! As opposed to a turkey melt, which actually sounds pretty good right about now.

amount of street food in DTX, I'm guessing the turkeys that frequent that area have learned that being nice to humans = snacks!

When I got to my office (which is located in a residential area) this past Friday morning, there were several Canada geese perched on some of the adjacent rooftops, having a great big honk at one another.
That evening, after having returned home (I live in Newton), I heard an odd noise and looked outside to see a wild turkey poking around our neighbor's lawn and pausing every so often to vocalize what we're pretty sure was an invitation to any and all nearby lady turkeys to, yo, come check him out. He hung around until morning, then left and hasn't been back since; our neighborhood is evidently not prime turkey-wooing territory.
Something's up. If next I see Tippi Hedren carrying a bird cage, I'm going to be very very very nervous.
