Storrow bridges maintain perfect record: Beat another truck

Shortly after 7:30 a.m., a truck driver seemed to figure he felt more like a car driver this morning and didn't realize that wasn't the case he suddenly found himself unable to get under the footbridge just before the Kenmore/Fenway exits westbound, as hkergrrl shows us.

State Police arrived not long after and shut the road in both directions to get the fool thing off the road, after helping the driver to unwedge the truck and turn it around, as Jack Loughran observed:

Stuck traffic on Storrow Drive

That took time, naturally, which led to traffic backing way the hell up, as Karen Kast-McBride shows us from inside her completely stopped car:

Minor quibble, but the accident actually occurred around 7:30 AM or earlier. I drove by it and grabbed this shot at 7:39 AM: https://instagram.com/p/3lz77XNjUs/ Meanwhile, Google Maps had warned me of the issue at least a few minutes before.

At the time of that shot, a trooper was on-site, but traffic was still flowing around the fool.

the sign is visible if you blow up the Instagram photo.

I couldn't recall which one it was.

I took that photo at 8:17. The state trooper pulled up 4 cars behind me and cut off traffic so I count myself lucky to have made it to work on time this morning!

Disappointed you weren't using Apple Maps.

Great interview on Debug. Can't wait for the return of Just the Tip.

Time fixed in original post.

I predict that, with the release of the new Mad Max movie, we'll be seeing more Storrowing.

Its a consequence of the body dysmorphia going on - a distorted perception of one's body.

The predominant case is denial that one is fat - too often leading to tragic clothing choices.

Here, since a vehicle is often perceived as an extension as oneself, there is a clear denial of that size, leading to truck drivers trying to fit under bridges or through turns and not fitting, with public embarrassment.

is maybe a subject you shouldn't volunteer to bring up here.

We should remove the pedestrian bridges so vehicles don't have to be inconvenienced by the danger of colliding into them. Every time I drive under them, there's only a handful of people on them, so they're not really being used anyway.

Then, since pedestrians will no longer have access to the Esplanade, we can add more lanes on Storrow to help alleviate the traffic.

If pedestrians want new, higher bridges that all vehicles can fit under, they can pay for them themselves; I don't want my gas/excise taxes to be used for such a useless project.

(the one showing the backup). Yep, there's no 'LOW CLEARANCE 11 FEET" sign over the roadway at the last exit ramp before the footbridge. It's no wonder why the truck passed that point.

Now, before we UHubbers call drivers of these trucks stupid for ending up on these roads, perhaps we should look at the stupidity of the DCR for not properly informing drivers of the hazards (or the stupidity that a parks agency is still allowed to own these roads instead of MassDOT). And for what reason - because some political appointee has declared that they will not install proper and adequate signing because it's not "aesthetically compatible" with the "historic" parkway.

Previous to this there are those black signs on chains, which was wrapped around the longfellow sign. whodunnit?

This. For example, why do we not have solid, steel structures that will block trucks on the *entrance ramps* where they will disrupt far fewer people's lives when they get stuck? Would this really be so hard to do/expensive compared to the lost productivity and police overtime cost of dealing with this every single time it happens?
