Cleveland Circle Applebee's closes forever on Tuesday

Meghan Rice, the manager of the casual-dining restaurant, reports its last day is June 30, after which it will forlornly sit empty until it's torn down (along with the neighboring and long vacant cineplex) to make way for a hotel and senior-citizen apartment complex.

All the stuff on the walls will be for sale, she adds.

Always sad to see a neighborhood lose its bar and grill. I'm not sure if Cleveland Circle will survive this bloomin' onion size chasm that will be formed. T&P

Not going to defend Apple Bees microwaved to perfection cuisine but they didn't do themselves any favors in my mind by threatening to tow people from their parking lot. A lot of people used their lot as overflow for the adjacent park. A savvy manager may have used that as an opportunity to get those people into the restaurant, rather then putting fliers on the car threatening to tow.

how dare a restaurant want to reserve parking for its own clientele

Especially a place where most patrons are sedentary.

Or, how about instead of driving to the park, people take advantage of one of the three Green line branches that are within walking distance?

I'm dating myself, but I remember going there with the family back when it was a Ground Round. We also went there several times when it changed to Applebee's. My father was a huge Ground Round/Applebee's fan (we also went to the prospective ones in Copley). I guess this time around the gig is up for the site being a casual-dining franchise. I also went to the movie theater back when it was a movie theater--one of the last movies I saw was 1492: Conquest of Paradise.
