Police: Jackson Square fight ends with two under arrest, one with a gun, one with a knife

Boston Police report gang-unit officers who arrived at a large fight on Centre Street near Chestnut in Jackson Square yesterday evening couldn't help but notice the two guys screaming at each other as they dispersed the crowd:

Officers tried to approach these two individuals however both refused to stop and quickly tried to elude officers. Officers observed one of the individuals reach into his pocket and attempt to pass an object to the other individual. Believing a weapon may be present the officers stopped these two individuals to conduct an inquiry and discovered a firearm in the pocket of one of the males. After the discovery of the gun by officers, the suspect began to resist and a violent struggle followed during which the suspect placed his hand in his pocket that contained the gun. Officers were able to safely remove the suspects hand from his pocket and retrieve a firearm from inside the pocket.

Gerkiale Williams, 22, was charged with unlawfully carrying a firearm, resisting arrest, and affray - on top of the outstanding warrants he already had charging him with assault and battery and disturbing a school assembly.

During the incident officers also approached and arrested 54-year-old James Lewis of Boston. Lewis was one of the original combatants and was observed by officers putting an open and locked knife in his pocket. Lewis was charges with possession of a dangerous weapon and affray.

Officers did not have far to go to respond to the fight: Police say they were already standing at Centre and Chestnut due to complaints from nearby residents about "recent criminal activity."

Remove such behavior swiftly off the streets where a steady parade of innocent jp residents walk that same route to get from the train station to their home, to Stop & Shop, to eat, etc. I can just imagine the shit the detective see when theyare down there for a day's work. You don't need cable, just watch Jackson on a Friday night or on the 3rd of every month.

All of the junkies that populate her mindscape get their welfare checks and blow them on guns and drugs.

You just have to read all her earlier comments to know this - it probably isn't validated anywhere with any actual numbers.

Good work by the police -- I'm glad the police were there, and glad they had increased their presence in response to earlier neighborhood concerns.

There are good people in the Jackson Square neighborhood who care and who want to make sure the neighborhood is safe.

In some parts of this country, someone reaching into their pocket in front of an officer risks being shot, combative or not. But in this heated scenario, after the officer has already noted the presence of a gun in that pocket... wow. Strong work, officers!

Did someone just contumeliously blaspheme?

He's just miffed because he wants to keep carrying his gun or knife when he gets into fights, without the cops making a big deal out of it.
