Bucket brigade to move Roslindale thrift shop

On Tuesday, the Home for Little Wanderers' Thrift Shop of Boston is moving from its current location at 17 Corinth St. to 33 Corinth St (in the Bank of America building) in Roslindale Square.

But they won't be loading stuff into a truck for the short move. Instead Roslindale volunteers will form a line down the block and pass all the store's items, one person to the next, into the new location, between 10 and 10:30 a.m., per Roslindale Village Main Street.

The location, which will also become the new home for the Home for Little Wanderers' New Start Program, will then open to the public in early September.

If so, I'm not sure how well this technique will work.

What a neighborly event!
Bucket brigades are always fun.

Agree on the neighborliness of it, and I would be totally in to helping with this, but that's not too compatible with my work schedule. :(

They don't generally sell appliances, but they do sell furniture - there typically some sort of desks and chairs, occasionally a couch or larger piece of cabinetry. I imagine they'll have a specific team to walk those things down. They'll presumably need to move some of the store furnishings as well, unless the build-out included shelving, etc.

For crying out loud, it's a thrift shop and they're moving a block away. This is a fun way to do it and involve the community.

I was just wondering how they'll handle some of the larger merchandise. If I lived there, I'd participate in the event.

what was paid for the JP property, one would think that they could afford movers.

to go less than a block is inefficient. Makes a lot of sense to have a bucket brigade.

Movers were suggested. Not a truck. A dolly is more efficient than a bucket brigade.

As well as being inefficient, loading a truck at the store and then driving it to unload at the new location would virtually block Corinth street and probably create a traffic mess with all the buses that pass through there (35, 36, 37, 51, 30, 14). I wonder if they will get any professionals for potential heavy lifting, though.

.. a (few?) years back, it had a little red wagon brigade. We just happened to be driving by -- so we lucked out by getting to see this.
