Guy in hoodie sought for East Boston bank robbery

Boston Police have released two photos of a guy who did an excellent job using his hood to hide his face when he robbed the Eastern Bank branch at 246 Border St. on Saturday.

He's described as black, 6'2" and clad in a gray hoodie.

Police say he gave the teller a note and threatened violence if he didn't get money.

remove hats, sunglasses and hoods before entering. I used to work as a teller in a big city bank in my youth. Nowadays, if someone walked in looking like that, I expect I'd trip the silent alarm.

On that job, I did once trigger the foot-treadle silent alarm by accident, was rocking back and forth in place because I was thinking, "Man, I am in the zone, *cranking* these customer through the line". I quickly realized my mistake, started waving "No no no!" at the video cameras behind me to that effect. My buddy, the doughy, hapless security guard, came running out of the break room, donut powder on his face, his sidearm drawn, very puzzled to see the customer at my window, a woman who was probably 85 years old. Fortunately for all, he sussed the situation properly, but it scared us both shitless. Pretty sure my customer had no idea what had happened.

but I know I've occasionally forgotten to take off the hat, or the sunglasses, and nobody has mentioned it to me.

Challenge with this bank branch is that it is in the produce section of Shaw's (check out the baskets behind the bank robber). So many people come in wearing hats, hoodies, fright wigs, groucho marx glasses, etc.. and you don't know if they're there to buy expired food products, moldy bread and other Shaw's offerings or if they're there to do some banking. And they're right next to the entrance so it's easy enter/easy exit for someone wanting to rob a bank. They could even grab an over-ripe avocado on the way out!

I can recall the East Boston Savings Bank being robbed numerous times over the years. Having lived there my whole life, I can tell you the robbers also had no problem shooting, stabbing and otherwise roughing people up. I'm talking 30 some odd years ago! I guess it's different now, somehow, huh?
