Teen shot outside O'Bryant School

Around 12:20 p.m. outside the school on Malcolm X Boulevard.

As the victim was rushed to the hospital, the school was put into lockdown - as were the neighboring Madison Park High School and the nearby Timilty Middle School.

I can almost see the school building from my office window and yet heard nothing. No sirens or rushing emergency vehicles. Odd.

I'm surprised you didn't. I live less than 10mins away and heard tons sirens and seen at least 8 cruisers in front of the school as well as the helicopters.

I work right across the street as well. Eye view, didn't see what happened. I did notice a swarm of police cars and EMS. I pray for the young people of this city. Respect your life as well as the next.

That area has been picking up over the past few months. The Whittier / Ruggles beef with Lenox is hot right now.

That still doesn't answer the question. GANG FEUDS OVER WHAT?????

Surely it's just like West Side Story or The Outsiders.

"Respect your life as well as the next."

I wish adults (and kids) follow this statement.

Could be any number of things. There seems to be an increase in teen aged boys in the Ruggles / Whittier / Madison park area. It has lead to an increase in robberies in and around the area. They may be looking to make a name for themselves. May also go back to other shootings in the area. Alot of this activity heads down towards Roxse Homes and into Lenox.(1050 & 1170 Tremont). They either head right down Tremont or come in the back way across Melnea / Shawmut. No idea if this shooting is related to this activity, just saying its been active recently. Consider the beef between Mission and Lenox was very hot over the summer and include this group on the same side as Mission and you have a lot of guns out there....

Saw a fight over colors, too
Red Riding Hood, and Little Boy Blue
A bad influence? Yo I don't know
But Ice Cube'll tell the kids how the story should go

works with an anti-gang initiative and said some of these long-standing back-and-forth beefs can be started over things as foolish as someone making a social media post that's outside the "rules" (like a young man attempting to woo the "wrong" young lady, or a young man whose girlfriend is mad he posted on another young lady's wall.)

Everyone ends up angry, wounded, and in jail, and it's all over what the rest of us would consider piddly high school stuff.

like they did for "Who's On First" for being irresponsible and holding hip hop private parties?

Or, just maybe its not the bars' fault what happens outside.

The O'Bryant does not hold a liquor license, so the division of the BPD responsible for such things would not respond.

These are behavioral issues rooted from childhood (or lack thereof). There's only so much schools can do with the mindset of the domestic terrorists who attend them. What sucks is how can the kids who want to do well in school and try to learn do so with such an environment/neighborhood ridden with domestic terrorism? Yes, that's exactly what I would call it. Innocent pedestrians/residents/T riders/schoolkids better start to speak up. You can't expect the cops to do it all. Police are not paid to be parents!

was across the street from the school, not in it. Don't even know if students were involved. I hope the kids is OK.

The parentng would be better if parents were able to get a decent education while being able to work 1 job that would allow them raise the kids and remain in their lives, hire a decent babysitter, etc. Currently there are a lot of single parent households (side effects of the war on drugs, amongst other things) and the single parent is likely getting by either with 2 dead end jobs or unemployed and hustling.

There are a lot of thngs to help correct this, but I can't lay the blame fully on the parents nor teachers.

All middle-aged, poor, uneducated single parents who raised their kids to now be productive members of society, we need to hear from you! We need to hear what your secret was. What a beautiful, powerful and influential voice that would be.

As a single parent myself, I kind of take issue with being labeled as different. I also take issue with my daughter being labeled as being different. Sure, my days were longer than other households, I was probably a bit more tired than I'd like as I wore many hats as both mother and father - but my home was no different than a two parent household.

Do what's right for your child, first and foremost. There are no secrets.

My grandparents were very poor immigrants during the depression. They raised 10 well adjusted, successful in life children who then did the same.

There are no secrets and it doesn't take being rich to raise a well adjusted child.

We see it every day, the young teenage mother working hard so she can provide for her child.

Put your child first, it's not really that hard.

Makes sense you wouldn't want an unarmed cop to bring a can of mace to a gunfight

Something is very wrong with students when our schools have to be the equivalent of prisons with corrections officers in order to be remotely safe.

It's very simple - schools are unable to kick out the gun-toting gangbangers and the rest of the kids are stuck with them.

But the attack was not in the school.
