Getting five people and luggage from Roslindale to Logan early on Christmas

A correspondent seeks suggestions:

We are going to be going out of town for several days, flying out of Boston VERY early on Christmas day. I would love to know whether there is any likelihood that remote parking spaces might be available. And, assuming it is not, what transportation company is most likely to reliably get us to the airport by 5:30 in the morning - at an expense that does not approach the cost of air travel to Chicago.

We need to get 5 adults there (with luggage) - so a taxi definitely wouldn't work. We used some executive limousine service (whose name we can;t recall) years ago - but that was something like $150 ages ago.

I've done this for my neighbor, and gotten paid back in kind later.

That's a big big favor.

For a neighbor? I'd do it. But I don't have a house full of little kids, so it wouldn't really be that big a deal for me.

Taken an early am flight on christmas myself from Roslindale. Yes, this is a no-brainer, uber will have somebody there within 10minutes. But with 5 people, you probably want uber ex? Is that what its called?

So if luggage isn't that much, there's that. Of course, you coud take 2 cabs. Of Jeff.

It was last Christmas, I believe, when my wife and I tried to park in the Logan economy garage and were eventually diverted to Wonderland overflow. It took a bit more time, but ended up costing nothing.

And leave early after checking the parking updates at the airport website or take Jeff's transportation as we do all the time. We have never had any delay and their pick-up at Logan is seamless even if your flight is hours late.

For 5 people and luggage you'll want UberSUV -- they are usually within 8-10 minutes of my location in Roslindale when I've needed it in the past to get to logan in the heavy snow.

UberX to the airport is maybe ~ $48 bucks, a regular Uber towncar may be $67 or so and I think the cost for a Suburban via UberSuv was around $90. Totally worth it for the convenience and space.

I'm fairly certain though that Uber may have surge pricing enabled but maybe not super early on Christmas day. That is the only variable cost thing that could throw you. The app will make it obvious though when it is in effect

If cost is your main concern, UberXL is cheaper than the Uber town car or UberSUV. Should be about $60 from Rozzie Square to Logan. http://uberestimate.com/

We've used them reliably to get to the airport for 5 am flights with 2 adults and 3 kids in car seats. You can reserve a minivan for a $5 surcharge on your trip, up to 24 hours in advance. The trip from Hyde Park to the airport is about $50 bucks plus tip.

Sammy Shaq Limo
2016 brand new Mercedes Sprinter Vans
Huge trunk, can seat 5 people comfortably, perfect for group transportation, van seats like 10 people. Luxury at affordable (very cheap) pricing, trust me Top Of The Line service! Airport drop off would be about $150 (my guess), professional drivers, very courteous, friendly & knowledgeable. We use them for group outings in Downtown every time! Call for a quote 617-602-8057 Personally, I wouldn't risk depending on an Uber, Especially on Christmas Morning, what if they don't show up, you wouldn't want them ruining your trip if they show up in a raggedy van and your party would have to squeeze in, and God forbid the van breaks down on your way to the airport. Sammy Shaq Limo is dependable, professional, responsible with a fleet of brand new Mercedes Benz vehicle with AFFORDABLE pricing, give them a try, that's all it takes and you will be using them for everything!!!! That's how we started! Best of luck & Happy Holidays!

PreFlight Parking is who I use. You can reserve a spot and pay in advance to get a decent discount.

... I would be nervous on waiting until the last minute to summon them very early on Christmas morning to get me to the airport. Just call a conventional cab company the day before and book your pickup.

Ha! This is the exact opposite of my worries in the same situation. I've had so many pre-reserved cabs never show up for an early morning pickup over the years. Reservations get "lost" or they get busy and put you down at the bottom of the list. Sometimes they never show up at all, sometimes they show up a half hour late. They just don't have any reason to care.

Uber all the way. Fire up the app 15 minutes before departure time, and depending on how busy it is, you may not need to summon a car until 5 minutes before pickup time.

I was going to post the same thing. I used to take early-morning trains out of South Station and got screwed over by Arlington Yellow Cab after reserving a cab the night before.

Try Boston Coach.

Don't know what's up with the goofy name but I had a good experience with these guys when I needed someone who could provide a car seat. They have rates for different vehicles / locations on their website:

University Shuttle
www.universityshuttle.net We've used them a few times. It's based in WR. It's nothing fancy (it's actually a minivan taxi) but reasonably priced and will get you all there.

Lucky me. I'm in a similar situation and through all these posts plus a phone call, I was able to cut out the 3rd party (Park & Fly) and get the Thrifty parking rate for under $86 for a week during the holidays. www.longtermparking.com
Thanks UHub!
