Patriots and a kid

The folks at the Boston City Archives wonder if you can figure out what's happening in this photo, and when.

It never worked well during battles

Judging by the adult's clothes, and the low rise cons or keds sneakers the kid is wearing. Probably around the bicentennial, 1976.

Plus the kids hairstyle on the left, has to be 1970's.

I like his sneakers...I think they are Converse Johnny Tremains

Perhaps the bicentennial of Evacuation Day. The children in the background look to be bundled up so it's probably commemorating something that occurred during winter.

Side lines of Schaefer Stadium?

It can't be Bunker Hill, Charlestown, Dorchester Heights or Fort Independence on Castle Island, both in South Boston, the topography is all wrong. Concord Bridge is a park with no structures around, so I would have to hazard a guess of Lexington Green, Lexington in the early/mid 1970s, although the building in the background doesn't look like the period/type that is found adjacent on the common.

I seem to recall the "Trip wire" barrier used during reenactments on Patriot's day back when that event was the signature event of the day, not the marathon. They stopped using it for two reasons, people ignored it and stepped over it and people didn't see it and fell over it.

George's island during bicentennial celebrations. Looks like the fort courtyard

That's definitely not Lexington. There's a tent in the background. Was never allowed on Lexington Green. The three folks in colonial kit look as though they are members of a fife and drum corps - see drumsticks and drum sling.

Thanks for playing, folks! This photo was taken on Evacuation Day (March 17), 1976. The photo was taken somewhere in South Boston, but we're not sure of the exact location. The individuals pictured were part of a reenactment for Boston 200, the city's bicentennial celebration

Reenactment on Dorchester Heights

I'm not a Dorchester Heights expert, but looking on Google maps, it seems that most of the park slopes DOWN to houses, so this photo with a house in the background that is UP the fill from the people seems unlikely.
