Every time he opens his mouth in the debates it seems he has something else he wants to give away for free unless you are one of the 400 richest people in the country.

I think that joke is older than Santa.

Seriously - "give away for free"? Surely you mean tax cuts for the wealthy when you say that. Better health care and social safety nets pay for themselves.

Maybe steevil means the subsidies available to mining companies, oil extraction companies, timber companies etc. who exploit public lands for profit? Seems like they're getting something for free that they didn't create and didn't earn and that belongs to all of us. And yet steevil and the other limbots cry foul when anyone suggests that these rich welfare freeloaders have to pay their fair share. Hey steevil, do you like bending over for the hope of a rich man's dollar?

I'd agree with you there. 100%. You do realize I'm one of the only Bostonians that shows up to testify against virtually every tax break that comes before the BRA and the City Council because it's little more than one hand washing the other providing unnecessary giveaways? Doesn't make a difference because it's the grease that keeps the incumbents in office. But you can't accuse me of being in favor of corporate welfare. If they invited me to Washington - I'd stand next to you and make exactly the point you are making - plus a few more on our ridiculous tax system (and don't even get me started on the whole deal with trust law made up by a bunch of rich senators sipping cognac in leather chairs).

Really? So splain me how the roughly 10% for administrative costs can be done more efficiently in Washington?

Splain me how when you effectively force everyone to take lower payments (because you have monopolized purchasing power) results in less unemployment for all those who can't afford to do research, make investments in the companies and a whole host of other problems you cause when you take a trillion or two out of the economy?

Now that you've taken all the tax money out of the economy and thrown the dirty rich guys and legal drug lords into a ditch - Splain me who pays for all that free education and all those other giveaways?

And especially splain how you do this without throwing Mass in the Atlantic ocean along with all those insurers and drug companies forced to take 60 cents on the dollar? You do realize that a huge chunk of the money you propose taking out of the private sector and putting in the hands of Washington now flows through Mass with a piece of it going to Beacon Hill. What happens when billions in Mass corporate profits literally vanishes overnight?

There are most certainly sensible reforms that can be made (not that I'm hearing much sensible from the top Republicans either - but I'd start by means testing a deductible and making people pay for the first $xx,000 of their own health care). Putting the government in charge of the entire medical system is not one of them. Not even close.

Well - 2 out of 3

Update - now 3 of 3 - argument stands - completely one-sided opinions

Like the WSJ article - and Fox and MSNBC - they only argue their side of the case - and don't present the tradeoffs. Arguing you save trillions of dollars opening up Medicare to all without factoring in the fact that you effectively crater the booming medical industry is not a credible analysis.
