Dorchester murder victim worked two jobs; was 19

Alvin Sealey

The Herald interviews the father of Alvin Sealey Jr., found fatally shot in the head on Washington Street in Dorchester early Wednesday.

Alvin Sealey Sr. told the Herald his son, known to friends as Trizzy, played the piano and was working two jobs.

He is Boston's third murder victim this year.

He was a person, a son, not a headline. Heartbreaking.

All I heard about yesterday was Brookline! It is frustrating to me that a murder in Dorchester is barely mentioned

If its accepted as normal then we are worse off than imagined.

The 112 words in the Globe kept receding into the virtual abyss through out the day. No follow up. Major change does not happen without a conscience-driven press.

What does his working two jobs have anything to do with the core of what type of person he was? It seems completely irrelevant in the grand scheme of whatever love & respect he had with friends & family.

up

His father said he wasn't involved in gangs, and as proof said he wouldn't have had time for that because he was working two jobs.

Ask my mother she would probably tell you I never drank in high school. The point is that parents don't always know best. Looking at "Trappin Trizzy's" public facebook page it would appear he does have some free time on his hands. The hang gesture he is making is a "W" which could represent Wainwright a gang in Dorchester. Combine that with the other pictures and comments on his page suggesting "Park Life" and showing Wainwright park, I'd suggest he is at least attempting to display affiliation to a gang. I'm not blaming him for his murder or condemning him as a person just stating that he in some shape or form wanted to appear as having affiliations to a gang. Now you can all get back to piling on Mark.

I don't know if he was in a gang. And I'm certainly not advocating for affiliating yourself with gang life. But two main points here:

1. It seems incredibly difficult for young men in these neighborhoods to avoid the contagion of gang violence, whether they are actively trying to avoid it or not. We've seen countless examples of mistaken identity, boys killed for vague associations with gang members, caught in crossfire, or killed because they wouldn't comply with pressure to join this or that gang.

2. Markk's comments were based on his instant and thoroughly ignorant judgments about the clothing, jewelry and attitude of this young man in one photo. And he then presented his assumptions as "facts" which is ridiculous. If we are "piling on" it's because he trolls a story about the death of a young man and a grief-stricken father with no sense of empathy or even connection, just a kind of smug, nasty-minded cluelessness. If he were a concerned neighbor, I'd feel differently. He apparently thrives on this kind of attention though so I don't think you need to worry about him.

up

Not that I agree with Markk's comments, some of the backlash is over the top. Everything has already been said in the first couple of posts to Markk - but it keeps on coming! I read these posts and wonder what these people expect to get out of it.

It's all a cesspool.

This young man is dead and his family and friends are left to live without him. That is the point of Adams original post, I believe.

The rest is garbage and the pilings on Markk do not make that poster any better (well, maybe in their own mind) so I guess I don't understand the point of it all.

The real war is not in Afghanistan or Iraq it is in our. Own neighborhoods and when the streets becomes the battleground for our children we as a people have an issues that no one wants to solve no child black Latino or white should. Be dying in the streets of our city cuz we fear the gangsters in the hood God gave us all life when will enough be enough dr king once said. When will we be sick and tired of being sik and tired

So the title of your comment is "judging" yet you say you're just "suggesting" that he was affiliated with some type of gang...what is your point in trying to dissect his daily activities? It's like you're trying to justify the tragedy at hand. I guess it's different when you're on the inside looking out vs the outside looking in

up
Voting closed 0

That is not a "w" that is a 3 stripes gesture as in Adidas representing Boston. A "w" is with the index and middle fingers crossed pointing and pinky spread out and thumb tucked in asses.

up

like the one on his page standing in Wainwright Park. I'm not judging this man's life choices. I'm putting out facts; He is standing in Wainwright Park making hand gestures and stating "Park Life". I'm doing that because most of the other people on here are speculating based upon the short blurb in this article. Yes he is from that neighborhood and may not have a lot of choices that others had. Yes he was working jobs and may have had a girlfriend, but for some reason, probably one that most will never understand, someone chose to shoot and kill him. For those that knew him or loved him I'm sorry for your loss. I truly am. For those that are sick of hearing stories like these, attempt to become part of the solution.

Why did you feel the need to air out the fact that he may be associated in a gang even if he was his life and breath did not deserve to be taken!!!!

up

1. The author of this story painted a biased story making Alvin Sealey Jr. sound like a boy scout, and then silently deleted comments with any contradicting information.

2. Walking down the street and getting shot in the head is a horrible thing. People want some reassurance that they won't be a random victim of the same fate, so want to know why this may have happened and know they are unlikely to suffer the same fate. So, those not involved in gangs, drugs, or displaying theft-worthy expensive jewelry, feel safer they won't get killed at random.

Is there any bad thing that happens that is ever the fault of the person who did said bad thing? Serial bad driver kills kids - must be their parents fault for letting them play outside! Person hit in crosswalk - what were they wearing! Somebody murdered in cold blood - must be the clothes!

Etc.

Examples:
1. Its not the junkie victim's fault for overdosing, its the dealer who mixed in fentanyl.
2. Its not the 4 pack a day smoker's fault for getting emphysema, its evil tobacco companies.
3. Its not war journalist's fault for going to and getting killed in a war zone, its the arms industry's fault.
4. Its not the pedestrians fault for getting hit when dressing all in black at night crossing a highway, its the driver's fault for not having night vision goggles.
5. Its not the welfare queen's fault for living off taxpayers, its the government for making all those benefits too available.

Time for people to learn to accept responsibility for bad decisions. Government won't be your teat and nanny for everything.

I hate when someone is murdered there is always a finger pointing to them being good or affiliated with something. This child was my neighbor and regardless of his affiliation he did not deserve this. so Dear Nona thank you for pointing out his facebook page but are you saying we should lessen our remorse we feel for him? No! let his father remember his son how he wants to. Some things are better off not said and that includes your detective work and trying to belittle this childs outside behavior.

In order to wainwright you have to be from there it is no longer called wainwright park but actually loesch park and happen to be the safest park known, this incident didn't happen around this area, so you must be from around wainwright long time ago to know the people affiliated which are the old heads
Further more who gives someone the right to play God on someone else's life, how he lived his life is how he lived it no one has the right to take it away from him. He's working too jobs at the same time he is a teenager he will make time to hang with his friends as well. I have read comments stating that he was also in the church but no one seem to mention that. Just because someone is from a certain area does not mean that they are a bad person. So PARENT should have to bury their CHILD NO MATTER WHAt!!

up

...but probably because every time a person of color is killed by gun violence in Boston, a legion of anonymous trolls (and a couple of white guys from Arlington) leap into the discussion telling us how it's the deceased's own fault because he was self-evidently a narcotics-selling gangbanger. (We usually get an encore chorus of how he would have been fine if he'd just pulled himself up by his bootstraps and found a way to completely disentangle himself from the neighborhood in which he was raised.)

I think they're trying to make that point that Mr. Sealey was just a guy trying to make ends meet, had no connections with any sort of organized crime, and had a pretty bright-looking future, until he was gunned down in the street for reasons no one has even tried to explain.

Why does one picture garner "thanks for posting his pic" and a second picture is "TROLL!".

I wonder if anyone other than you posted if the reaction would be the same.

Those offended seem to think the second pic paints him in a negative light.

What about the pic offends these people? His attire? They must be closet racists.

up

Markk--and maybe you--think that the "facts" of the second photo somehow represent something different than what's conveyed by a. the other photo and b. the interview with the dad and the fact that yes, this was a young man who was working two jobs. Markk's crystal clear implication is that no young man who dresses like this (ooh--baseball hat! Shiny fabric!) could possibly be a hard-working, upstanding young guy who didn't deserve what he got. Am I missing anything?

up
Voting closed 0

Anybody know what the hand signal means?
A google search indicates the dad lives in Roxbury and the son in Dorchester, so dad may not be fully aware of his son's activities.

Sports team attire is also frequently associated with gang membership, but that could just be an uncommon Red Sox cap he is wearing at night.

to try to intimidate them and to silence any criticism. Janet Wu showed up unannounced on my doorstep with a cameraman. Insanity is to keep trying and failing to intimidate and silence me.

Here is what the couple was doing when there are over 600 kids just in Massachusetts looking for adoption. Problem is the state won't give them up to home schooling religious nuts to brainwash into their cults, so they use the $13,170 per child IRS tax credit to buy kids from overseas, and were asking Arlington residents for additional money.

All the kids are using that sign not just blacks and not just in Boston. You can't actually believe that they are from the same gang. His attire matches the style of many youth and they should never judged by what they wear. Gangsters come in many fashions such as tailored suits, khaki pants and button up shirts, black robes, blue suits and hoodies & jeans. Who are we to assume who is who if you know nothing about that person.

You've discovered the "Young Money" hand sign! It was popularized by Lil' Wayne as a badass looking hand sign to associate with his record label, Young Money Entertainment. I think you've clearly established that this young man likes music that you don't like. Think of it like a rap version of the metalheads' "Devil Horns" hand sign or the hippies' "Peace" sign. Unfortunately, while many hippies aren't peaceful and many rap fans aren't gang members, all metalheads are, indeed, Satanists.

At least 6 years ago that sign was used and the record label goes back to 2005.

The Young Money sign is different. Its done with two hands, "Y" by right hand, and "M" on the left. The photo shows a "W" with the right hand.

What's your fucking problem?

Seriously. Why was your first reaction, when seeing this story, to track down something that denigrates this kid? I doubt you ever met him or his family, so you have no vested interest in the story.

I figure it is one of 3 reasons:

1. You are a sociopath

2. You are racist

3. You are just an asshole

Some might ponder putting some form of ASD, but they just lack empathy. You are actively hateful on this. So which one is it?

Who knows, I might start following you around the UHub asking whether you want to be seen as a sociopath, a racist, or just an asshole. You can pick which one you are if you want. Of course, you could combine them and just say you are a racist, sociopathic asshole if you want. Your choice.

A kid is dead. Someday you will die. Perhaps suddenly in a way that will lead to a news story. Do you want people to shit all over your grave when you pass like you did to this poor kid?

Interesting subject, black peoples who dress a certain way are looked at a certain way, period. I'm educated, and work a corporate job. On casual days I have to wear my 'white people approved' sneakers because there's an inherent belief I will be judged if I wear anything too black. Just the way the world works. It must be a difficult struggle to continually blame people for their own shooting death, but it is an important one because if it wasn't the victim's fault then we would have to look for another explanation and the one that might become apparent is that something is wrong that we should collectively deal with. If this person is not inherently different, then their death is frightening because then I could be that victim. This realization would ultimately require a lot more work than simply blaming someone's skin color and speculating wildly about their life.
