Burst sprinkler pipes shut several Boston restaurants

UPDATE: Barney Fannings has gotten the OK to reopen.

ISD inspectors have shut several restaurants after their sprinkler pipes burst, flooding their kitchens with water and, in some cases, shutting off their water altogether, over the past three days. The tally so far:

Barney Fannings, 99 Broad St., downtown
Boston Beer Garden, 732 Broadway, South Boston
Upper Crust, 683 Tremont St., South End
Viga, 291 Devonshire St., downtown
Whiskey's Steakhouse, 885 Boylston St., Back Bay

Zo, Center Plaza location closed all day according to their twitter account and Panera Cares Cafe, also in Center Plaza (at least as of this morning when I walked by and saw the industrial drying fans set up)

Last night in my apartment building, as it was warming up. We're still without water. I was feeling pretty bad for myself until I went down the hall and saw the damage in some of the back apartments.

My boyfriend does maintenance for an organization with residences and facilities. Today and yesterday, all he's been doing is responding to burst pipe calls.

It sounds like your boyfriend definitely had his work cut out for him yesterday! Wow!

Here's hoping that you both came out okay.

That doesn't sound like a very good record. Maybe the proprietors of the above-mentioned restaurants should've had preventive maintenance done before the inspectors came in and made them close down for health/sanitation violations.

You can tell everybody exactly what they need to do , to be prepared for the next unplanned event or catastrophy. Nobody would ever need insurance. They would just hire you and will be all set.

Acquired by the former owner of the Times. I believe it will be getting a name change at some point soon.
